Cause had they lost, you know people would've been kicking him.

I still say going for it was good. I don't like the run to the outside though. I also think you have plan your 3rd down with 4th down in mind. Also, there was one play (2nd down?) where SD was aggressively showing that they were coming, and I would've liked to see a screen somewhere in there. Not only on that play, but as a deterrent to SDs rush on 3rd and 4th down -- which was killer.

Right decision, wrong play call. To not sneak with Brady on 2nd or 4th is pretty bad.

at least tony dungy said so today and dan patrick mocked "but he is a genius" .iam sure that will be the general sentiment

Also, on that 4th and 1 run. Connelly was in at FB and blocked no one. He kind of just ran into his own man, and SDs OLB went right at Lawfirm.

Punt it.

If you are going to go for it call either a QB sneak or a quick play action pass to a TE, like a goal line play

Before the play I said they should punt, as I thought the risk in going for it at the half stripe was to great. If they had punted, SD could have been pinned deep, and would have likely found driving into field goal range a little tougher. Also, I thought they should have ran the QB sneak with Brady, instead of a set running play, as Brady very successful on fourth and short.

I would have punted it but going for it was the right thing to do. I just hated the play call. And that second down run was ridiculous considering everyone in the building saw that coming. Would have loved to see a play action pass there.

It was a terrible decision last year and it was a terrible decision again today. He absolutely should have punted the football.

If BJGE had run the play correctly he would have had an easy first down, game over. On a previous short yardage play he was able to bounce outside of his blockers and get the first down. That obviously influenced his decision on this play. I am sure he will learn from this, one way or another....

I didn't have a problem with them going for it there, but I would have called a different play. I was in the car, so I didn't see it live, but the replay shows a hand off way in the back field, and BJGE didn't follow his lead blocker. Why not do a Brady QB sneak? He got 2 yards earlier in the game. Or a draw to Woodhead, who was having more success than BJGE? Oh well, at least it didn't lose the game for them. Kudos to the D for not letting the botched 4th down play let them lose focus.

He should have punted it. I certainly hope Belichick wasn't thinking about the Colts call last year.

That was the right call in the Colts game. Peyton was on the other side of the field, and the Colts defense was not that scary.

The Chargers had stuffed the running game all day, and their defense was pretty formidable. Yes, Rivers is having a great year, but he's not Peyton Manning.

PUNT IT.

The playcall was horrendous. I'd rather have Woodhead in there than what they did, at least he might get a second chance to find a hole and is a passing threat which keeps the D a bit more honest.

I would have called the sneak there personally.

Dungy needs to gargle with a little bleach before his shows.

The Chargers were the first team in EONS to play the QB sneak. They had 4 guys shoulder to shoulder on the nose several times during the game. In fact, I saw Brady audible OUT of a QB sneak at one point, to a handoff to Woodhead (that was stuffed). The Ravens played it the same way, they were all geared up on the nose. Two missed blocks on that running play and BJGE taking a bad route doomed it.

I also can't see how the replay booth decided the spot of the ball was proper. Maybe not a first down, but definitely not a yard away from the first down marker. i couldn't understand it.

I actually liked it in this situation. The bigger problem is, we can't get a yard when we need it. Not the only situation where we really struggled in short yardage.

I liked the gutsy call. It wasn't a terrible play call and It's not always going to work. Just think if we had attempted a short pass and failed, all you guys would be saying "We shoud've ran the ball!". It just isn't characteristic of BB to punt in that situation.

Yes and the only reason why is the O-line was simply horrible today.
If it was 4th and 1 inch punt the ball because that line was not going to get that inch in a big spot. I love BB's aggressive style but it was important that he factor in just how bad that line was most of the day. Big mistake trusting them today.
O-line plays that way next week the Pats will get slaughtered and TB will be taken off the field on a stretcher.

I agree that in this situation we should have punted.

I can't understand why BB would play that prevent defense and let them run up and down the field but then throw away the conservative stance to take a really risky gamble against a defense that clearly had our number.

Since Weis left town, I have had very few reasons to call out the playcalling but this was one, IMO.
