Agent: No Peyton Manning-Indianapolis Colts talks until after season - ESPN

Peyton Manning will not have a new contract before the season ends.

Manning's agent, Tom Condon, confirmed that he informed Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian in a face-to-face meeting Wednesday that the 13-year veteran quarterback will not discuss or negotiate a new contract until after the 2010 season. Condon said Polian's reaction was simple: "OK."

Condon also said there have been "zero negotiations" between the Colts and Manning.

Come on Michael Silver, you know you want to write it. And just to quote from that ridiculous article:

Could the Colts trade Manning? Why not? Since Silver loves to make up all sorts of nonsense like this, tell me why he wouldn't write the same thing about Manning.

Could things really get that ugly? Say no agreement on an extension is reached before the start of the 2010 campaign and Brady, as is likely, tables any contract discussions until the season is complete. Even if he wanted to leave via unrestricted free agency, the Pats would surely franchise him. At that point Brady could threaten to stay away until the 10th week of the season before signing his one-year tender, surrendering only a pro-rated share of his salary and potentially extending the stalemate into another offseason. It’s possible such a nightmarish state of affairs could compel the Pats to consider trading him.

Im not so sure the Coltsies want to take this Manning contract on until the league reaches labor peace.....

That's the one thing that gives me pause: the Colts, even after their sweetheart stadium deal, just don't seem to be in good financial shape. I know that they're in a small market, but given the amount of revenue sharing in the league, I just don't get how they could be so far in the red with a new stadium and no real debt service to worry about. I'd love to see their financials...

It'll be interesting to see what other teams are willing to throw at Manning if/when he hits free agency. Granted, he'll only be a restricted free agent but I think he would still get offers since he could just be that rare player worth 2 #1's. I suppose if it gets to that point, just about anything could happen.

EDIT: Yes, I'm assuming any new CBA keeps the "franchise player" option in the same format.

if you were starting a franchise over, there might be 6-8 players in the league worth 2 #1s and I don't know if Manning is one of them. And I am talking about a Pioli/Belichick re-building a franchise, not a Ditka/Millen.

I agree with you that there may be only 6-8 players in the league worth 2 #1's, but I don't know why you don't think Manning is one of them. I'd be very interested in who you think those 6-8 guys are who are all better to have on your team than Peyton Manning.

Besides, nobody will be starting a franchise over. Imagine a team with a lot of the pieces in place but missing a QB. Minnesota, Tennessee and Chicago comes to mind. Think they wouldn't like to make a run at Manning?

I don't doubt it. But if it was Brady's agent saying talks are being tabled until the end of the year, Michael Silver's head would explode with all the BS he could make up from now until then.
