Some wonky rankings between 6-14. I can agree with the top five, though.

So much for the preseason prognostications that the NFC was going to eclipse the AFC. I guess that entrusting those kinds of results to teams coached by Chilly and Phillips will do that for you.

I'm shocked that Phillips hasn't gotten fired yet. I would have swung the axe already if I was Jerry Jones. He made a huge mistake hiring him as a coach in the first place. He pretty much wasted that team's prime championship years.

Also, I could easily see the Giants in the top five instead of the Colts. They look to have turned around their defensive issues and are playing some pretty good ball right now.

Top 5 are pretty consensus from the rankings I've seen, with minor variations. I've seen Jets/Pitt flipped and Ravens/Colts flipped, for example.

:ditto:

you could probably say the same thing about Norv ;)

Definitely. They've easily been the most talented team in the NFC over the last few years. I thought Phillips would have been fired after that 2007 playoff loss, then 2008, then 2009. I don't see any way he'll make it this year. And now, of course, Garrett has been exposed.

100% agreed. I've been beating this drum for a couple weeks. The Giants look scary right now. They could very well be the NFC representative in the Super Bowl.

Oy...

The Cowboys are NOT talented... who do they have? Austin Bryant Romo(at choking), Ware and Mike Jenkins and Newman who are both inconsistent. that is all the great talent they have

They're a pretty talented team. Their offensive line has fallen apart in recent years, but they have a talented receiving corps and talented RB's (who tend to underperform). On defense, they're talented in their front seven. The issue isn't talent with them. It's that they're not a TEAM. They're a group of 53 individuals. It all stems from terrible coaching.

If they tend to underperform, i would say that means the opposite. That they are not talented who occasionally out perform.

Add Ratliff, Whitten, Spencer, Choice, all solid players too.

The Cowboys like to play leap frog and hopscotch :p

Penalties don't matter to them b/c they are the best team in the NFL:rolleyes:

Just looking at Pitt's schedule, besides NE, NO, and NYJ, they play teams that are so offensively challenged that 12-4 is the minimum. They play 1 tough road game at NO, with NE and NYJ at Pitt. Seems like old times with the Pats having to travel to Pitts and crush their fans' hopes again. Regardless of these outcomes, that roster will be resting in December for a playoff run

the pats. colts. and steelers have played in 8 SB's and have won 6 in the last 10 or 11 years and are still the teams to beat now thats how you run a franchise.

I'm not going to waste any bandwidth defending Phillips, but Tony Romo has something to do with that "waste" of those years. He's gone from a "phenom" at the beginning to "revitalized" when people were writing him off completely to a "big question mark" every week. Makes me count our Brady Blessings even more.

That's the last nine years (01 to 09) and you're 100% right. I just take every chance I get out here to remind people how extraordinary the Brady/Belichick combination has been. Four of those eight and three of those six are ours. That is beyond amazing, as it is. But, when you consider what "might have been" both in 06 with a #1 WR and in 07 without the magic helmet catch, your mind can start to spin.

I think the trouble with the rating has been the fact that the Colts spanked the Giants pretty decisively.

The NFC is terrible. The 4 AFC division leaders are a combined 5-0 vs the NFC. The 4 NFC division leaders are a combined 3-4 vs the AFC. The best record in the NFC is 4-2. And finally, the Miami DOlphins are 2-0 against preseason favorites Minn and GB while getting their only victory vs the 0-5 Bills....blows the mind

Not entirely accurate. Texans lead the AFCS. They are 1-2 against the NFC.

The first two standings pages I looked at had Tenn on top...but the tie breakers made no sense. ESPN has Houston on top. Give this a week or two and Tenn will solidify this.
