This game a metaphor for the D this season

Watching this game and being on the board so much got me thinking this game is like a smaller version of this season for the D.

Starts of rough and scary then just gets better and better and at the end is nearly unstoppable

I hope I am rigt nad the D looks even better at the end of the year

2001 defense. I love it. :)

Re: This game a metaphor for the D this season

We just need Butler to step up or Bodden to recover and we have really nice D.

Re: This game a metaphor for the D this season

yeah that left corner position is really our achilles heel.

Re: This game a metaphor for the D this season

Second half performance was brilliant... as were the second half adjustments. It's going to be a rocky road with this young group but the signs are encouraging.

Cunningham played really well. McCourty is learning. He got called for PI in the first half for not turning his head, but made the adjustment later on to break up a huge 3rd down pass. Spikes and Mayo were critical in shutting down Rice. Deaderick also didn't look out of place in his first start of the season. These kids are growing so quickly.

I think the 3rd down stop with about 9 minutes left was the turning point and possibly the win for the game.

I'll say it again if there is one thing we should be praising again and again after todays game it is the way the defense responded in the clutch. They proved that they could hold up a good team in the 4th quarter and OT and give the offense many chances to get back the lead.

Ravens had the ball with a chance to win 4 times!! Didn't even get a FG off. Nuff said.

Exactly. Some of the PI calls were bogus, but we have to remember how young this D is and they are learning. Each week is a learning experience. They are young and fast. Remember EVERYONE saying we were too old on defense? Now we are young and this D will come together, as they are showing now.

2010 draftees who are still here, in this game:
McCourty - started poor, massive play at the end.
Gronk - one catch. Big catch though.
Spikes - immense.
Cunningham - Looked like a 2nd round pick. Could be a star.
Price - inactive.
Hernandez - Great until OT.
Mesko - MVP. What a Punt.
Deaderick - Started. Awesome.
Fletcher - UDFA. Limited duty in the Nickel, but made some plays.

Then you've got Chung, Arrington, Mayo, Meriweather, Crable and others who played there part.

This D finally put it all together in the 2nd half.

Arrington in particular impressed me. Boldin barely got off the line of scrimmage. Kyle owned him.

The defense has been growing every week. Leaders are emerging (Wilfork, Mayo, Chung), play-makers are emerging (Cunningham, Chung, McCourty) - this defense is getting better and better and better.

To all the ******ed idiots screaming and banging their keyboards in the first half because we weren't moving the ball, and especially to those taking yet more pot-shots at the defense.

You play for 60 minutes. Or in this case, 75.

Grow some balls.

Gronk drew a penalty too.

Imagine how good this team could be if they stopped making rook mistakes. :)

This young defense took a major step forward today against a very good team.

They played great the entire second half. I am very, very impressed with how fundamentally sound they looked. Big, big, BIG win! Love it!

I agree, they were incredible especially late in the game. If they gave up the score in OT, I wouldn't have been upset because they did more than their fair share today.

Okay, that's a lie, I probably would have cried. But I wouldn't have blamed the defense. They kept us in the game for a long time and saved us numerous times late.

Crable was effective on passing downs at the end of the half and in overtime! He was in there instead of Ninkovich.

The 4th quarter and overtime defense was nothing short of impressive. After struggling, they found their footing in the second half. Now, let's go into San Diego and keep it up.

This was the best performance of the season and it came despite a bogus illegal contact on 3rd down in our red zone and Brady giving the ball away in our territory on a horrible play.

So many clutch stops, that was incredible from a young defense. The resilience to stop the Ravens in the red zone twice, the 2nd time was after an awful penalty resumed a drive that should have ended. And OT left me speechless, they won this game for us.

Cunningham may be the answer at OLB, a few good pressures, the strip, and drew a holding penalty on Oher!

McCourty is the real deal.

Can't help but get excited here.
