Nolan as Raven's DC 2004 - An easy 24-3 Patriots win mostly due to a pounding running game by Corey Dillon who had 130 yards and literally controlled the game on the ground

Brady finished with a pedestrian 15-30 for 172 Yards - 0 TDs 0 INTs

Nolan as Raven's DC 2009 - Comeback win 20-17 by Broncos after Brady struggles in 2nd half - 2 TDs 0 INTs but a sack resulting in a forced fumble

Brady finished with a fair 19-33 215 Yards - 2 TDs 0 INTs

Brady vs. Nolan's defense is 1-1
but the scary thought is that for those 2 games Nolan has kept Brady in check

Those stats average out to a 51% completion ratio and just 192 Yards passing with 1 TD per game.

The past is the past which is true and we do have some good TEs....lets hope for better than a 50% completion percentage or we will lose this game.

Brady has to pick his game up a notch...no more locking onto Moss. Give ALL his weapons a shot...he should have built up trust in Hernandez,Gronk and Tate by now.

Hope that BJGE and Woodhead can take some pressure off him with a decent running game. Give him better options than 3rd and long all the time.

The 2009 Broncos had the NFL's third best passing defense. The 2004 Ravens held opposing quarterbacks to a QB rating of 68. In other words, it wasn't as if Brady was the only quarterback who saw his stats drop against those two defenses.

As for the two games against Miami this year, I'll just wait and see what happens rather than presume anything one way or the other; as herm says, "that's why you play the game." But so far they do seem to be improved: 9th in passing yards allowed (193.3), 12th in opponent's QB rating (76.1), and 10th in points allowed (17.0 ppg.) By comparison in 2009 they were 24th in passing yards (234.6), 19th in QBR (86.9) and 25th in points (24.4); they appear to have definitely improved on defense so far.

You know the minute the 49ers canned Nolan I was thinking to myself Belichick as HC/OC and Nolan as DC of this team could be a deadly combination to beat,I think they would have made a great pair but until BB stops the idea of promoting from within or shall I say no promoting at all as in this season, we may never see a DC with a great resume helping the team out - I really think it needs to change.

Nolan has always been a great mastermind of defense but fails as a head coach,just like Wade Phillips is now....and they were not the first men to be that way as Rod Rust is just one in the past for example

Generally the more times a QB sees a D the better they do. There are only so many things you can throw at the QB.

We will win if:

1. Our running game is consistent and can help move the chains.
2. Our defense doesn't make stupid mistakes (Pass interference, Blown coverage/tackles)

Really, our defense just needs to hold on and not put too much pressure on our offense. If the running game is successful we will win. Without a running game, passing is that much harder.

That Baltimore game in 2004 was played in a virtual Monsoon. You could put the 2008 Loins in there and Brady wouldn't have reached 200 yards passing.

Brady's numbers in the 2009 Denver game were very good considering:
-It was in Denver, where the Patriots are clearly cursed
-Matt Light was hurt early in the 2nd half
-The Denver pass defense included Elvis Dumervil, Brian Dawkins and Champ Bailey

Yep. I remember that game was a mudfest on the "state of the art grass". And I clearly recall Ray the Murderer commenting after, that the Pats were the "Best" team he ever played against on that day.

First, you are talking two games.

Second, the game vs. the Ravens in 2004 was a windy, rainy day. According to the game book on NFL.com, there were 20 MPH winds and "Rain, heavy at times". So could the weather conditions be the reason why the Pats pounded the ball in that game instead of airing it out. Kyle Boller was 15 for 35 for 93 yards, 0 TDs, and 1 INT. Even for him, that is a horrible game. I can't remember the game specifically, but it looks like the rain and wind was definitely a factor. Maybe Nolan can scheme a hurricane to go through Miami on Monday night.

Miami doesn't have the horses that Nolan had in either of those previous games. They're not terrible, but the Ravens have a ton of defensive talent (including one of the best linebackers and safeties to ever play, both in their primes in 2004).

Also, a QB's play is about more than personal stats. In his worst of those two games (the first one), the team won 24-3. As the leader of the offense, who has to make many calls at the line and direct the action, his team scored 24 points and won by 21. Chances are his numbers aren't going to look as good as if he had to throw 50 times in a shootout.

In the second game, which really wasn't a bad game at all, Brady was coming back off of knee surgery.

Neither game was Brady's best statistically, but I wouldn't call it alarming by any stretch of the imagination.
