Bruschi's podcast: Scheme is sound

And if you asked Freddie Mitchell who the best Eagles receiver was in 2004 he'd say it was himself. Don't take players comments as gospel. A lot of these guys know how to play, but if they all understood the ins and outs of gameplanning they wouldn't need a coach.

Sicilian, I'm not sure if I quite follow what you're trying to say, but I watched a Jet team that did seem to be a step ahead in the second half after appearing to me many steps behind in the first half. So I have to believe that Keller is just a little right in his assessment.

I would take Bruschi's comments with a grain of salt. Tedy Bruschi had better defend Belichick's scheme...Belichick's scheme made Bruschi a star.

I am beginning to question the effectiveness of the Belichick scheme in today's NFL. The concept of "build a wall and make everyone run around it" was fine in the era of balanced offenses and game managing QBs. Today's NFL is throw, throw and throw some more. The same problems have plagued this defense for 5 years...insufficient pass rush, too many soft zones, inability to make the stop on 3rd and long, poor instincts on screens and outside runs. Some of this can be attributed to a roster that transitioned from too old to too young overnight, but I think some of the blame falls on Belichick's scheme as well.

That's fair enough, I can't say which of us is wrong. What I can say is that just because Dustin Keller says it doesn't make it true.

if you listen to the podcast, reiss posed the same question to pioli who said the same questions where raised in the 80s with the giants and then they won another SB, then a few yrs of new yrs and the conversation started again until they won another SB .

So what happened in the first half against Cincinnati? Did they follow their assignments and now they're not. remember we were all saying how quick these guys picked up the D and how much younger and quicker they are? So are they undisciplined now?

well..they came out pumped up and lets face it...Cincinnati played like crap to start the game. All first week games across the league you can take it with a grain of salt.

Any scheme is sound when you've got good players who carry out their assignments.

and their coaches and coords are young too so i assume that is going to add more growing pains.

That had to have been a fluke, they played with so much heart and have been horrible since. I think they need to push it more, be physical, aggressive, and confusing. Lately seems like they have been playing soft man with 5'7" corners who couldn't cover tupperware for the life of them, if your guys are weak and small then mix it up Bill.
