He has looked good so far this year but somehow I think that he would have been a stiff with the Pats. Call it the Patriots 'Advanced' scheme or something to that effect.

awesome thread! :rocker:

I agree with you about Taylor, at this stage of his career I think it would be very difficult for him to be as effective for the Pats as he has been for the Jets (so far).

Moreover, I think that many of the "name" players so many people are throwing out there that the Pats "coulda, shoulda" picked up this offseason would not be as effective in the Pats system as they are in their current systems. Like it or not it is evidently a complex system, especially I think in positions closer to the center of the line of scrimmage (meaning its probably easier for the Pats to integrate cornerbacks than a defensive tackle, and easier to integrate a wide receiver than a guard). On this basis I'm not pining away for the Taylors, Vanden Boshs, Kampfmans, or even the Peppers' of the world. I share the frustration of those watching Peppers disrupt a game so much for the Bears when the Pats don't have anyone even close to that type of player on defense, but at the end of the day I guess I'm OK with those particular decisions.

By the same logic, however, it follows that the Pats ought to pay a premium price to retain a veteran that has been proven effective in their system. The question is how much of a premium price. I struggle more to be OK with those types of decisions they've made than I do with not bringing in "name" player A or B.

Bill could have easily brought in a few more veterans ... but at what price to home grown development? I think we'll be fine ...

I think while the jets sacrificed their future so that their team has a chance to win a title by signing some good vets like Taylor, belichick sacrificed this season for the sake of being prepared for the next decade and hoping these young rookies become accustomed to their roles and do their job

If it means this team has to take a step back in order to move forward in the near future I am all for it,especially if a team like ours with a defense in rebuilding mode stays around 8-8 while the construction is going on.

Insightful ;)

How did the Jets sacrifice their future by having Jason Taylor play on passing downs for one season?

Taylor has had two great plays, the strip sack on Brady and the Henne sack. Otherwise he hasn't done much. When Pace comes back he can go back to playing only on passing downs. For a third down role player for a year I don't see how this is "sacrificing" the Jets future.

So far Taylor and Tomlinson have both played well. Cromatie I think is absolutely horrible and can only cover the deep ball.

No he hasn't. He has hardly played at all. But he did have one good play against the Pats.

Another whiff by BB

I haven't watched every snap but in game 1 against the Ravens he stood up well against the run and then made two impact plays against the Pats and then the Dolphins. He has shown more production than all of the scrubs the Patriots have at OLB.

As far as sacrificing the future, give me a break. Are the Patriots suposed to flush a year down the toilet so that Nincovich or Murrell can 'grow'.

NFL games come down to one or two plays, playmakers make plays not cast off no talent worthless JAGs.

How the hell did the Jets sacrifice their future? The Jets didn't give up anything to sign JT for a year?
