Re: OT:Cassel remains steady in face of criticism

Note this..."Tom Brady doesn’t do many one-on-one interviews, especially not for out-of-town newspapers, but he returned this phone call because of his respect for Cassel."

This article was written when the Chiefs were 2-0. They're now 3-0, leading their division. 16 0f 27 for 250 yds and 3 TDs. A nice day.

Chiefs fans hate, and I mean hate, Cassel.

Can't say I watch enough of their games to see if it's warranted.

It's not. The Chiefs have a terrible offensive line, and Dwayne Bowe is the closest thing that they have to a receiving threat. Cassel isn't good enough to carry an offense by himself, but looking good in that offense would be a tall order for any QB. He's already shown that he can pull his weight when there's talent around him, which is more than you can say for a lot of NFL starters.

I have never been a Cassel fan, and still dont belive he is a bona fide NFL starter. However, that being said, at this point it is hard to be critical of him.

He has made the most of the opportunity that was handed to him when Brady got hurt and then with the big contract in KC.

I still see him as an NFL backup, at the best.... He just is not fluid....seems hesitant, still. But, hes got the big bucks stashed away, so what does he care what anyone in KC thinks of him.

NFL backup? He's clearly better than at least 10 NFL starters. He has no substantive talent around him on offense. Remember how badly HOF Brady can play with just say a Welker out for a game, or facing a Jets 2nd half defense.

Re: OT:Cassel remains steady in face of criticism

yesterday alex smith was the SF starter and he was the #1 overall pick in the same draft cassel was in the 7th round. i would take cassel over any of the other USC QBs too other than maybe palmer.Above all, he is a good guy so hard not to root for him. Esp when he played for us after brady went down and the oak game after his dad passed away.

Re: OT:Cassel remains steady in face of criticism

I'd have Cassel back here in a heartbeat.

He is better than many!

I am sure Buffalo would welcome him with open arms! He is better than he is given credit for! Might not have the stats, but he doesn't exactly superstar WRs!

And if he is a back up at best, how are they 3-0?

I know D is a big help, but he still has to manage the game!

Re: OT:Cassel remains steady in face of criticism

Somehow he managed to pin up 31 points and 457 yards of offense on Patrick Willis no less.

I mean, that was against Patrick Willis.

The 49ers defense did also surrendered 31 points to Hasselbeck's Seahawks. Same Seahawks whose #1 receiving threat is Mike Williams. Everything about that team sucks. Roddy White is going to carry my fantasy team next week, since he gets to go against San Fran.

Not that that should diminish what Cassel and the Chiefs did, but let's not start thinking that they did it against some vaunted, unstoppable D.

The offensive line is not terrible. It's actually a good run blocking line, and the pass protection has been good this year and the end of last year. Cassel doesn't help things with his poor pocket awareness either, he's one of those QBs that just takes sacks. The bigger problem is that the Chiefs wideouts aren't great at getting separation and Cassel isn't an accurate passer.

The offensive line is bad, especially against the pass. It sucked last year, but the additions at center and right guard have helped some.

It's still pretty bad.

Based on what, reputation? The Chiefs are the number one running team in the league, have only given up 2 sacks, only one of which was the line's fault. I've watched every KC game this year and Cassel has had time to throw.

Have you seen the 49ers play as of late :confused3:
