He was my favorite player from the AFL. That was when Tarington was throwing bombs to Homer Jones in the NFL and Al Davis was actually a great Football exec.

R.I.P.

What he did in 1970 was unbelievable. In 5 consecutive weeks, he either tied or won a game at the end of regulation by either throwing TD passes or kicking field goals, in an era when kickers barely converted 50% of their kicks...Oh and was 42 or 43 years old at the time......

Now that is a superstar!

I was fortunate to be able to see him play, in person at the AFL games...

He was a breed of a different kind of player, that today's NFL players dont even come close to matching. He played for the love of the game.

This. I only saw him on TV, but yeah.......

Saw him live when the Pats played in Hahvid Stadium. Crowd would walk out mixed in with the players. Houston guys like Hennigan & Groman were big, tall. Stood next to Pats TE Tony Romeo and he was short and stocky. Aside from a few like Larry Eisenhauer at 6' 4" the Pats of that era were stubby kinda guys.

George Blanda RIP:(

My 1972 George Blanda card has always been one of my most cherished football cards, from the year I started collecting. That dude scored a mess of points as a kicker, not even counting all his QBing.

I remember watching those games, or at least the highlights of them. He def. had the Last Hurrah/Lion in Winter thing going for him, and had I imagine a lot of the country rooting for him, incl. my dad, brother & I.

Until 1976 happened, I actually liked the Oakland Raiders.
