For those who didn't know, that's what BB was complaining about on the Bills FG drive toward the end of the first half.

The only thing I can think of is because they did a review maybe that reset it. But still: Discuss.

I saw that yesterday in a college game as well, thought it was illegal. The skins got flagged for it a while back.

I remember that; trying to ice the kicker!

But it should have been flagged!

From what I remember it's not a penalty but they just ignore the time out request.

A Kick to the Gut - washingtonpost.com

Unsure about the rules regarding the use of timeouts in an attempt to "freeze" a place kicker, Gibbs said he consulted an official along the sideline, asking whether he could call another timeout after the one he had used a moment earlier, before Buffalo's Rian Lindell sent the ball through the uprights from 51 yards away. Regardless of what the official told Gibbs, his decision to call consecutive timeouts in that situation led to a 15-yard penalty.

Steve Burton just asked BB about it and he explained it. Workin on the transcript right now to get it to everyone.

Here's a rush transcript that has the jist, I'll polish it up but I just wanted to get somethin out there.

Steve Burton: Can you explain the rule on back to back timeouts cuz I don't think the announcers knew what was goin on and, what is the rule?

BB: Well, you're not allowed to, uh, uh you're not allowed to do it. um, If you do it on a kicking play, if you do it on a field goal play it's a penalty like what happened in the Indianapolis game you know they changed that rule after the Colts lost to us there in the opener in '04. Uh, you're not allowed to do back to back timeouts on Offense or Defence but there's no penalty you're just not allowed to do it. So, what should have happened was it shouldn't have been allowed. They called the time out and then since it was an official's mistake it was a mechanics mistake then they, um, said ok you're not allowed to have the timeout and then they reset the 40 second clock to 25 seconds and went from there. So you know, the officials made a mistake on it. They, they they made it. They followed the mechanics of when they make it just like You know we all make them out there, coaches, players and everybody else. Uh, they made one, they acknowledged it um, you know I was just upset because I didn't really know what happened. I knew what happened but then they reset the clock you know it was 4th and 1 and we didn't really get the kind of rush, and get everything that we were you know we just didn't get it as quickly as we should have and I thought the play should have been stopped and said ok, here's what happened. And I think their feeling was, we already blew it by givin them the timeout when there wasn't the timeout so now there is no timeout and now you gotta go and they didn't want to delay it any further by comin over and talkin about it so, you know I mean I I, I understand what John did, I think he handled the situation OK. You know just frustrated that you know that that mistake happened but, hey we made a lot more mistakes out there than they did so I don't really have any issue with it.
