Davone Bess?

You might think I'm crazy, but hear me out

Davone Bess, MIA – The Dolphins tried a variety of options at receiver last year, but only twice was Davone Bess a starter. And yet, Bess was the team’s leader in receptions (by 26) and yards (by 206). This year he’ll compete in camp for a starting gig. With many big name receivers set to the hit the market, don’t be shocked if Bess becomes one of the steals, as Wes Welker was a couple years ago in a trade as a restricted free agent.

Davone Bess is exactly the type of player that New England turns into a star. He has so much potential and would fit perfectly into our system. He's much younger than Randy Moss. He has a way better attitude than Randy Moss. He's hungrier than Moss. And most importantly, he would be way cheaper than Randy Moss, which would allow us to use cap space on other needed positions like RB, DE, and OLB.

Bess doesn't have half the talent of Randy Moss. I think the Pats draft a top WR early unless they can come to an agreement on an extension once the season is over.

Well Davone Bess is a much better football player, so I'd rather sign him.

I like Bess, but he's more of a Welker type. And since we have the original Welker and a backup Welker, I think Bess would be a waste of money.

With everything I've seen on here in the past week, my stupidity detector is broken.

I can't remember how this board was in 2006 when the Pats last lost back to back games with the Jets being the 2nd team in a row to beat them.

I bet it was not pretty...

I was a newb, but I can remember it. It wasn't.

I think any WR comes via the FA market ... Bill will be going DL and maybe RB in round 1 anyways. I'd rather see Randy stay ... even in a reduced role he will be lethal especially in the Red Zone.

What about that stupid kid at Georgia who sold his jersey to an agent....draft that guy!

I've always seen Davone Bess as a good player but there is no way I would pick him over Randy Moss. Also, if someone is going to point out now that he may be the next Wes Welker steal then it probably won't happen. If that was the case Miami would keep him, which they will.

AJ Green is a sick wide receiver, but I doubt that's where we're going in the first round.

Tate seems closer to assuming Randy's role in the future. Of course he's not Randy but the Tate will be the stretch the field guy as we use high draft picks elsewhere. I doubt we'll ever see Bill take a WR high in the draft again.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Tate's been a ghost so far this season.

disagree man....... Tate has so much upside it is disgusting. He would have been a round 1 selection if it wasn't for his knee injury .... He tore up the Tar heel offense with his slick receiving and top notch speed.

Tate
Gronk
Hernandez

are all round 1 talents that we cashed in on in later rounds:)

Tate's value as a returner is invaluable and under looked.

Randy Moss is not needed in this offense..... I want to see the young ones grow and develop!!!

Randy who??? Seriously......

Moss and Bess should never be mentioned in the same sentence again.

A few years back people were saying all the same things about Chris Chambers that the OP is saying about Bess. Potential's great, but falling in love with it isn't the best plan.

Do you think that the issue there might be largely that he's a flanker who we're asking to play split end? Seems like Price is better suited to play opposite Moss than Tate is, in the intermediate and long term.

That's cool that he has all that upside, but the fact stands... the guy's been a ghost through the first two games of the season.
