Aaron Hernandez - TE Sep. 23 - 9:40 am et

ESPN's Mike Reiss thinks Aaron Hernandez's playing time will increase now that Kevin Faulk (knee) is out for the season.
So far, Hernandez has played 67 of 123 offensive snaps. The rookie tight end is so versatile that he can line up detached from the formation or even in the backfield. Tom Brady is in the market for a third-down security blanket with Faulk down, and Hernandez's arrow is pointing up. He's a TE2 with upside.

- It is no surprise w/ Faulk down.... This injury of Faulk could be more advantageous than hurtful-:)

Yeah, this doesn't surprise me. At Florida, he lined up split wide, in the slot, on the LOS, and in the backfield. He's extremely versatile. And, he's been great for us so far this year. Anything that can get his role to increase is good with me.

He has been a go-to guy for Brady since TC. I want Hernandez on the field for the majority of the snaps going forward. He is going to be our Dallas Clark.

I agree he could be a good weapon for us in the back field, but the assertion that Faulk getting injured was good... no. Injuries are rarely good (Bledsoe is the only one I can think of that was).

I see Faulk's role being spread out amongst a lot of different players, including Hernandez (to go along with Edelman, Morris, Woodhead, etc).

All of their roles will expand, because I don't see any one of them that can just step in and do everything that Faulk does.

Does this mean I pick him up for my fantasy team?

Another guy who I'd like to see have his role expanded - Gronkowski. You don't draft a 6'7" athletic tight end to use him almost exclusively as a blocker. Let him run some routes a little more often and create match-up problems.

The major concern for me is blocking. Hernandez is not know for this and i will be worried having him as the last line of defence for brady.

But call me crazy but i think GRONK is actually better suited for this role.
he has size and a LB will be smaller than him and he his height actually helps him find the LB over OL .Usually he will matchup against ILB or OLB in coverage due to his size where a CB is too small similar to kevin. Hernandez is faster and runs routes to you are better off keeping him at LOS for a quick release and attacking seams in zone.

I think blitz pickup out of the backfield is more about instinct and experience than it is size (otherwise Faulk wouldn't be able to do it either). You don't expect your back to stone the LB like an OL would, you just need to give the QB an extra second to throw, because whenever there is a blitz it generally means there's an open guy somewhere. Don't need all day to throw in that scenario, just need a little extra time (especially for Brady).

As long as he doesn't end up on the SI cover I'm excited about it.

this is also by default good news for Gronk I would assume.

So you agreeing with me saying you better off rotating alge and gronk who are used to blocking and having been asked to due to this more. remember all TC and pregame hernandez runs routes with WR .Suddenly you cannot ask him to convert to do pick up blitz

Hernandez really has the potential to develop into Brady's Dallas Clark or Antonio Gates. The guy was a stud on Sunday. O'Brien needs to take advantage of him. If he can be a focus of the offense, it will free Welker and Moss a bit too.

guy who posted last......

if you feel offended by my quote.... get over it, seriously.:)

We are stacked and it is time to tweak our predictable offense.

Tight end usage is hugely important.

67 of 123 (Hernandez) is unacceptable it needs to be increased by at least 20 at the least.

aaron creates so many mismatches and it is a crime that we are not using him enough.:bricks: I watch alot of College ball.... Hernandez is the real deal and I loved his play at Florida.

its only week 2 patience grasshopper.

I'm pretty sure I called ~ in MARCH ~ for Aaron Hernandez to be picked before at LEAST 99% of the denizens of this Forum, including YOU...But that's beside the point.

To CELEBRATE the injury of a WORLD CLASS SCRAPPER like Kevin Faulk...is not nearly as foolish ~ though it be IMMENSELY so ~ as it is REPREHENSIBLE.

I've "got over" the kind of debris that would express such sentiments a LONG time ago, thank you very much: But I feel I SHOULD point out their disgusting and vile words, when I see them.

 I told my son to take him and he did not listen to me ... hope it's not to late for him.

He was on the field for over half the snaps while he splits time with 2 other guys who are both better blockers and more likely to be out their for run situations than he is I think we have TE's out there as much as we need he us not like Dallas Clarke or Jason Witten where he is the clear number 1 guy.
