Re: Phillips. He runs a different system than we do. He runs a one gap 3-4 while we run a two gap. However, the man is a great defensive coordinator and I think he could adjust to the role on the team. If he gets canned, he's someone to consider.

Some people are great coordinators and some are head coaches. Phillips is the former. There's always room for a great coordinator here, though Belichick prefers to promote from within.

Wade has zero experience running Bill's base defense which is a 3-4 2 gap. This season he sucks running his own... He runs a 3-4 one gap that utilizes different sized personnel capable of running entirely different schemes and incapable of playing in the 2 gap version because of size differential and skillset.

Not to mention he's an enabling twit.

Wade's system would not work here unless we made wholesale changes on defense. Wade has no experience coordinating a 2 gap 3-4 let alone the specific one Belichick runs.

I didn't see anyone suggest that Belichick change his system. The thread is talking about hiring a coach.

If you think Wade couldn't coach up some pretty young players in Belichick's 2 gap, then say that. But reread your post, that wasn't your point.

Don't say that Wade's current players don't have the right skills and size to play for the Pats, because that is irrelevant.

I'd also add that clearly Belichick is set on being the chief architect of this defense, hence his refusal to hire a DC per se. So really, since this new coach wouldn't have final say on scheme or high level strategy or drafting, we're really talking about someone who can coach people to cover, play with discipline, tackle.

As a side note, the player's the Patriots have on the current roster aren't that good at running the 2 gap 34 either. Hence a 11-8 record since last season.

Personally, I feel we already have our DC. He just doesnt have the title yet. Just like when JM was the OC, but without the title. Think of it as, DC in training. Patricia will be next years DC. As for Wade,,,,,please no :bricks:
