If Carolina continues to stink?

Carolina doesn't seem like a mismanaged franchise to me. As such, I don't anticipate them trading one of their best players, especially when he's only 23 and still on his rookie contract.

If Carolina continues to stink the Patriots can use their high second round draft pick to draft Kevin Faulk's eventual replacement.

Or trade it for a 2012 1st rounder.

What about D'Angelo Williams?

Hey Mr. Sass, Calvin Johnson isn't on the the Raiders now it's my turn to roll my eyes.

I was going to write assmough since we had a ****load of threads here and forgot to change it after I chose Calvin Johnson, my point remains the same;)

Does anyone think that Carolina would start selling off pieces if they realized before the trading deadline that they aren't going to compete for a few years?

Do you think Jonathan Stewart (I assume they'd trade him before Williams) is worth a 1st? how about a 2nd?

Would it even be worth it since the team seems to prefer running plays out of the shotgun?

Just a passing thought.

Personally, I think you can count the number of RBs worth a first-round pick on one hand, so I'd say no. 2nd you could make more of a case for, although I'm not sure why Carolina would trade away a 23 year old player just because they're not in contention this year. Besides, the Pats just traded away a pretty decent running back, so it doesn't seem that they think it's an area of need. I think the Panthers will mostly stand pat until the offseason, since John Fox is in the last year of his contract and they need to figure out who's going to be coaching them next year before they can start going after players to fit his style.

Even if you had gotten the player's team right, still not sure you made your point. What's wrong with picking up a good running back from a team which has a solid RB as a starter? Teams do it with QB's all the time. The Patriots have a bevy of draft picks, and instead of (lets say) using the #2 with drafting a back, they send it to Carolina for a back. Seems like the compensation would be the issue, rather then the thought.

The return of Patrick Pass perhaps???

This was total sarcasm, originally I was going to reference J.R. Redmond, but since Pass came into camp for 36 hours last year I thought his name was more current.

The downside is that we'd be trading for a guy who's halfway through his contract. We'd only have him for 2 years at most before we had to extend him for fairly big money, rather than the 5 years that you get if you draft a guy yourself. If you discount for that by dealing a later pick, then sure, but it makes giving up a first-rounder a pretty poor value proposition. Second rounder too, probably, is you're using Corey Dillon as your standard.

I would take either of their RBs. Then next year I would draft some interior linemen to block for him ;)

The NFL is a two back league, do you think Carolina drafted Stewart with their first pick for the hell of it? No, the drafted Stewart to complement and relive DeAngelo. They got exactly what they wanted in 2 1000+ yard rushers why would the go and trade on of them away when they are one of the few bright spots on the team.

I would be down for either Williams or Stewart. But, if I had to choose one (and Carolina isn't getting rid of either of these guys, by the way), it would be Stewart. My preference is for a downhill, punishing type of runner. Once I signed him, I would look to invest in a fullback.

I don't think the league is a two back league......... A couple of teams have two good backs, but thats a luxury, and if I was fighting to be 500 I'd trade that luxury.

You're right, a 7-9 team was really drafted for luxury.

You mean WHEN Carolina continues to stink.
I can't see them winning more than 3/4 games at the most. They have Steve Smith and nothing else and a CHEAP owner.
In the last 5/6 years they have spend zero $$ on FA and still have no 2nd WR.
Unless Clausen turns out to be Joe Montana they won't win much this year.

First 2 drives we ran the ball 15 times..... After that 5 times for the rest of the game. I like both above mentioned backs, but maybe we should just stick with the run, with the guys we already have. Just a thought.

Dude, your not making your case. It's a two back league? Start there.
I have no problem if the Patriots want to trade a high pick on a good back who is a back-up.

They would not trade Stewart, Maybe DWILL since he's in the last year of his contract, but he would probably be gone after next year. Maybe People should stop shooting so high and try to get their 3rd RB Goodson he would be an ideal fit for a 3rd down RB.

Here, I hate doing this but Im going to answer your question with a question. With the Panthers already having a stud RB in DeAngelo Williams, why did they spend a first round pick on a Running back? Now why would they go and trade the younger of the two to us for another high round pick? No team uses one RB throughout the game so by default multiple guys take handoffs. Carolina is a team the specializes in the run so they put more emphasis on keeping their RB's fresh than a team like the Colts who run less. I would have 0 problem if the Pats were to trade a 1st for either back but why the hell would Carolina do it?
