Is today the deadline to trade Mankins?

I think it is October 19th.

Those expecting him to be traded are setting themselves up for disappointment. Really, with the interior blocking issues we had last Sunday, I think it's a no-brainer. Pony up and sign this man immediately.

agree 100% sign him

I think we need to either sign him quick and amp up our run blocking or trade him for good value on defense. If we aren't going to trade him then just sign him already.

Somebody should tell Logan this, as it requires both signatures to make a contract.

I think what the TS is going on is that today VJax must be traded or his suspension isn't reduced.

You are correct, Sir! Jackson must be traded by 4pm ET today to have his suspension reduced.

It also takes respect from both sides to meet in the middle. I don't think Mankins (or his agent) has respect for the Patriots when it comes to negotiations.

You are correct sir....They asked Minn for a 2nd and 3rd for VJax....I wonder if the closer it gets to the deadline if they would take a 2nd and 4th seeing as we have 2 of those....

we are going to have to pay more that the Saints paid their guard... they better not sign him.

Just before deadline, I reckon someone gets him for a 2nd!

There is a lot of posturing in contract negotiations and usually one phone call can clear the air and everybody is smiling.

I expect Mankins to show up in week 10 and say he is happy to be there and ready to do his job.

Bet he will! And as soon as the season is over, he is out of NE!

Mankins is done here. No way they extend him now because they reserve those deals for guys who bring more to the table than talent. He's stated he will come in in week 10 and be available for the last six games. Bill will take him up on that for peanuts, even if he doens't start him. If he plays Mankins will have to play well or he shoots himself in the heart (as opposed to the foot where he's already wounded himself extensively). The only way you see him here beyond this season is if he comes back and essentially takes whatever deal is on the table and apoligizes profusely in public and private whether he wants to or should be expected to or not. Otherwise there is no way they are guaranteeing him in excess of $20M... And depending on what happens with the CBA and what their cap position is heading into 2011 and how he performs down the stretch in 2010 there is every reason to believe they will use the tag on him in an effort to facilitate compensation in a trade.

Both sides need to make the move on this one. But yeah, I understand. Patriots rule.

I wasn't intending that to be a pro-patriots or anti-Mankins sentiment. The fact remains, the idea that A) The Patriots could at any time simply go sign him and choose not to is silly, and/or B) That it is sound business practice or team-building to simply overpay for him because we had a rough running game against a top run defense is extremely silly.

While they might want compensation for him, unless it can play this season it does them no good. They can get close to the same compensation for him in 2011 or 2012 as well as the use of him down the stretch in this season. Makes no sense to trade for it now when what they need is replacement bodies. That's why the Maroney trade didn't make a whole lot of sense even before Faulk went down unless Bill thought Maroney wasn't going to play or have any more impact than a JAG here either way.

Amen to that my brother!

Maybe the new CBA of 2013 (if we are lucky) will allow for us to recoup a third round comp pick.
