SMY: Faulk's injury is torn ACL

The Boston Globe's Shalize Manza Young reports RB Kevin Faulk's knee injury is a torn ACL.
As one of the league's most reliable passing-down specialists and chip-blockers, Faulk's injury has a much bigger impact on the Patriots than the fantasy football world. Danny Woodhead, fresh off the Jets' practice squad, is a candidate for third-down duty. Expect Sammy Morris and BenJarvus Green-Ellis to see increased action on passing downs as well.

Sh*t!

I was expecting Taylor and/or Morris to be out but not Faulk...

Even sadder is that this could be it for him ...

It's not going to be the same team without him there ... he will be missed in more ways than one.

The injuries this year have been ridiculous. We lost playmakers before the season. Now, we have lost one of our best playmakers on Offense. FU New York Jets. I hope Miami and every other team on your schedule beats the living crap out of you. So pissed and sad all at the same time. It will be very hard to replace Kevin, IMO. :(
I don't think that he can be replaced.

It seems like every year one of our most important players on offense has an ACL tear..... I suppose next year it will Randy's turn.

That sucks. Always respected Faulk as much as anyone Pats. He had that annoying quality of always making the clutch plays on big 3rd downs.

Definitely a big loss for the Pats.

Yes ... many times opposing team's fans will say they like Kevin Faulk.

Sigh. No surprise after how he reacted. Another "money" player gone, which we really can't afford.

Damn, another huge setback for this team. By far, one of our better options on third down. Hopefully the back-ups can step up to try to make this loss a little easier to handle.

F*ck me! What a monumental loss! Like most people said on the board, as bad as Maroney was, it wasn't a good idea to trade him.

Maroney wasn't bad at all. But the rest of your post is dead on. We could have really used him on Sunday and we could really use him right now. Absolutely terrible trade that's looking even worse right now.

When the Pats signed Danny Woodhead on Saturday, I said I thought he was a Kevin Faulk type of player and could take some time for Faulk to keep him fresh. Now he has to prove me right because he is going to get an opportunity to get a lot of chances to play the Faulk role.

Get well Kevin. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

This is a real, real bummer. I wish him well and hopefully the speedy recovery, but the odds are against him. He'd be 35 coming off major knee surgery by the time training camp comes around next year.

I remember the fist time I saw him carry the ball in '99 er sumpthin'. All I saw was the name Faulk on the back of the jersey. I turned to the guy next to me and said,"Wtf? The Pats got freaking Marshall Faulk?"
I think they're related tho.

Anyway, I love this guy. Freaking CLUTCH player and a leader. See him ripping dejected players on the sideline vs. Ravens in January?

Now who's gonna lead? Pats were thin in that department already.

And Merriweather just likes to have fun putting on a NFL uniform and is all happy and joking after losses. He's even jovial and happy go lucky sounding being interviewed yesterday.

Time to give Brandon Jacobs a call. He needs a new helmet anyway. Give 'em a flying Elvis.

Kill the messenger! :enranged::violent::scream:

Bad news for the team.

Maybe Maroney can get in there and show that he can be a great option in the passing game on 3rd downs. Oh wait..

I suspect that the next word on Faulk will be an announcement of his retiring at the end of the season, if not before. The man's had an exceptional career, but at his age, coming back into playing shape after this sort of an injury will be difficult, especially as an RB.

I hate saying that, but and it's not at all how I'd like to see his career end, but realistically, if comes back, it will be more miraculous than Welker's swift return.
