Getting the snap off before a team can challenge

Never having QB's an NFL team, I don't know exactly how the communication works. But on Brady's 2nd INT, either Ernie Adams or someone up top has to get the coaching staff to tell Brady to snap that ball before the NYJ can challenge - knowing NYJ had a great chance to win the challenge. This isn't the first time I've seen the Pats cost themselves doing this, I can't recall specifically, it happened last year. But that play was the turning point in the game, and we had to capitalize on the ref's blowing the call.

Much like with Gostowski's first quick being a second too late, so too was the snap on this play.

I've noticed this too. They don't run up to the line of scrimmage like they used to and BB doesn't challenge blatant INT's I could see from California (week 1) or the fumble recovery in super bowl 42.

Sometimes football is a game of seconds. And the Pats were not sharp in those instances. It cost them in both momentum and possessions. Which are both crucial. There's plenty of mistakes to point to though. Bottom line, the Pats need to execute better as a team and as a coaching staff.

I was close to breaking my TV when I saw the Pats sauntering up to the LOS-- Brady, BB and everyone else seemingly with no awareness of the situation. Reminded me of some of the 2009 incompetence on the sidelines/pressbox.

They easily could have gotten that play off before Rex threw, then kicked, the red flag, and THAT was yet another mistake that could have completely turned the game around.

That's odd because I specifically remember one of the TV announcers saying Brady was desperately trying to get people lined up and get the snap off before a potential challenge, but then the challenge flag came out before he could bring that off. :confused2:

Zo and Gresh were defending this this a.m. because the play that ended up being an INT was second down; meaning the next play was third down, not a down you waste. I had to work last night and still haven't seen this, but it seems like you still try to get a play off quickly rather than risk turning over.

that's koppen's fault for not paying attention to what's going on. he's got to snap that ball.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm getting at. Brady can't be responsible for everything. At some point the rest of the team needs to take responsibility for themselves and step up. I understand it was surely very loud in there, but all the more reason to know what is going on without having to be told.

Yea, I agree about Koppen needing to be aware too, but go back and look at it--Brady himself was anything but frantic in trying to get the play off.

I'm going to have to write the dissenting opinion here.

First of all, as soon as that play was made and the (incorrect) call was made in our favor, Ryan knew he was going to challenge. No question about it. I was in a bar with about 100 people and everyone there thought it was a bad call.

If Brady snaps it in 2 seconds or uses every last second of the play clock, Ryan was going to throw the flag as the Patriots lined up in this instance. Too big of a play. He simply took the extra time that was afforded to him.

If Brady had gone hurry up, Ryan would have thrown the flag even if he wasn't 100%........the way it occured, the only thing that changed is that the Jets knew they were going to win.

Now in general, the OP has a point. Other not so clear cut calls should be the impetus for a quick snap if the call is in the offenses' favor.....

I can think of a number of higher priorities I'd have for the coaching staff to fix.
