He seemed to be really killing the Jets -- then that hit just silenced his game....

I also thought he looked very glassy-eyed when they did closeups of him....Concussion?

Anyhow, his loss was huge. The O never got rolling after that.

I don't know if you missed that part of the game, but Welker scored the Pats last TD after he went back in after that hit.

The Jets secondary just wiped him out of the game in the second half, thats all

Well not right away, i wouldn't be surprised if he had a concussion that wasn't apparent right away.

That was my thought (concussion), I don't remember seeing him much in the 2nd half. Although I think he looks glassy-eyed at all times anyway :p

Welker and Moss are the yin and yang to success against a top defense like the Jets. Once again, we lose one of those and things can get really ugly. Especially when the run game can't do much of anything.

Re: Wes Welker dissaperared (on the field) after that hit...

I believe that whoever is calling the "offensive" plays for the Pats forgot that Welker was still dressed and ready for action in the second half.

Re: Wes Welker dissaperared (on the field) after that hit...

Welker disapeared after he dropped that critical third down pass up the seam. It was almost like O'Brien and/or Brady didn't trust him after that.

Who wants to bet he is limited in practice all week and questionable next week.

Re: Wes Welker dissaperared (on the field) after that hit...

I forgot that TD was after the hit, my apologies.

However, yeah, he disappeared in the 2nd half. I'm glad we all seem to agree.

Was it due to a possible concussion? Or just good Jets scheme?

Dirty hit from the same guy who made a dirty hit on Bolding last year.

They may well have felt determination aside he might be feeling the effects...

He was in the game, but who can pass up a jump ball to Randy Moss twenty yards down the field with double coverage?

I saw him clearly open on at least one play where the ball was forced to Moss. They seemed determined to "take advantage" of Cromartie, when he actually was much better at covering than Revis. Bad adjustment, not Welker's fault.

That's probably the case. Welker is the type of player who will never let on how much he is hurting.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to find out Rex told his guys to knock welker's head off if given the chance, penalty be damned. Rex probably paid a bonus to the guy after the game.

Re: Wes Welker dissaperared (on the field) after that hit...

Whatever happened to the days when Tom's favorite receiver was the one who was open?

That philosophy went away the day we signed Randy Moss.

Don't get me wrong, I love having Moss on the team, and he really opens up the offense. But from a team standpoint, everyone walks on eggshells around him subconsciously or not. Trying to make sure he's happy.

To the detriment of the team.

That philosophy went away the day we signed Randy Moss.

The 2007 Patriots had 6 receivers with more than 35 receptions.

2009 had 4
2008 had 4 (w/Cassel as QB)
2006 had 4
2005 had 3
2004 had 2
2003 had 4
2002 had 4
2001 had 2

The team has never spread the wealth any better than it did in 2007. The problem, from what I can see, is that the 4 in 2009 consisted of 2 players who were essentially 1 (Welker/Edelman) given their playing time and positional overlap. Aiken, the WR3 for most of the year, had just 20 catches, and Galloway had just 7 to add to that.

The sentiment underlying your statement seems to be true, though, based upon what we've seen in 2009 and so far in 2010. Since returning from injury, Brady + Pressure = pass to Moss/Welker, and not to "the one that's open".

Re: Wes Welker dissaperared (on the field) after that hit...

There's no doubt Rex told the 1st guy to have a questionable chance at Welker to nail him. That's good strategy. The Jets were most worried about Welker beating them all day. Wadya 'spect 'em to do? It freaking worked. Wes had a crap game. He was mostly neutralized after that.

It was like when The Giants were beating Moss up at the line of scrimmage early in the 16-0 game and he was visibly shaken until later on in the game.

I'm not usually the conspiratorial type, but this thought crossed my mind too. After all, it is Buddy Ryan's son we're talking about. A few minutes after the Smith hit, I saw another flying forearm aimed at Welker on what would have been a late hit, but it missed.

Re: Wes Welker dissaperared (on the field) after that hit...

What really killed me was why Brady didn't go to Gronk more often. I mean , Moss was double/tripled, Wes was out of it due to concussion or whatever, RB's weren't getting it done, but our TE's were getting open many times!

And the one time Brady decides to go to Gronk, he underthrow's him by a mile and Gronk still almost catches it. The guy is a bloody monster! Just freaking launch it and let him run under it. Had Brady not underthrown it, that might have been a TD. No one else was in front of Gronk. I think Gronk's gonna be huge for the team, but Brady really needs to try and utilize him more.
