For 2 weeks straight he has been horrible and a flag magnet. I thought he may have become someone and I'm trying not to be too reactionary but he has looked lost out there.

Any chance Shawn Springs may reappear anytime soon.

Try harder

He needs to play to improve. Braylon Edwards is a tough cover 1 on 1, especially when he's not dropping the ball. I don't think it's time to quit on him yet.

He showed promise last year, so it's earned him a chance to show this is just a slump in my mind. Apparently, BB thinks so too.

That doesn't mean I wasn't screaming for him to be yanked in the 3rd quarter.

I couldn't understand pass interference today. Cromartie and Revis were grabbing people out there. Butler's 1st flag looked like a good play to me, and in the end zone, it certainly looked like Edwards pushed him in the back to prevent a INT.

He found himself in a nightmare situation today where he obviously couldn't cover Edwards, and every pass seemed to be right on target. On a better team he would have been put at nickel back or gotten more help, but this defense cannot afford these luxuries. I don't think this guy will ever be a shutdown cornerback, but very few are.

Not that this is too positive, but there were no plays where athleticism was the problem. He has the speed and athletic abilities to stay with the WRs; he needs to learn when to turn his head.

BTW: Just a note on that last PI call. No way was that ball catchable, although he did interfere.

Edwards caught 5 passes for 45 yards. What do you expect a corner to hold a teams #1 receiver to?
The pass interference calls were not good calls. On the first one, he played it exactly right. The recevier stopping so he runs into him while playing the ball is not pi. The second was a foul, however should have been waived off because the pass was uncatchable, well over the recievers head.

Dude, Butler is the weak axx link. Wake up.

No amount of stats is going to change that. Listen to those of us that follow the Pats religiously and heed what we are saying for once?

So he let up more passes than were caught?
It isnt a matter of stats, its a matter of saying he couldn't cover the guy who caught passes for fewer yards than a #1 WR typically does.
Are you saying Edwards had a tremendous game?
WRs catch passes, corners let up receptions. The average team throws for more than 200 yards each game. Corners allow completions. 5 is not a lot.

He was today, but look around the NFL and see how many corners are burned one week and look great the next. I wouldn't say he's the weak link, although he was terrible today. There are shutdown corners, who are extremely few and far between (they rarely let up big plays), and then there are good corners who still get burned a lot (the NFL is such a passing league now.) I think delusions of Butler being Revis or Woodson-like are evaporating, but he still may be a good cornerback. Ty Law and Asante Samuel were not great for a few years.

It's an area of concern that if not address will continue to hinder this team. He is going to have to do better. He is getting a reputation for PI.

He needs to be put in the best position to succeed, which is play press man coverage. We came out on soft zone coverage, Sanchez got his rythm and it was too late by the time we started playing man. He got screwed on a couple of underthrows by Sanchez which are impossible for a DB to defend. He got cleanly beat for the two point conversion, but no one should expect a CB to never get beaten.

I still think Butler's going to be our best COVER corner, but if they keep playing him 10 yards off his guy backpedaling at the snap of the ball, we'll never know.

He wasn't great, but its just crazy to say a guy letting up 5 catches for 45 yards sucked. That is just way, way too high of an expectation for a corner.
Do you expect a corner to never allow a catch?

NE lost and your stats suck.

Edwards owned his sorry axx.

Look for more since its a copycat league.

Jeeez...I thought I was being pretty kind in talking about Butler. You are still stuck on the 45 yards thing. We get it. On paper, it wasn't the worst game. If he didn't play badly, why did he go on Twitter with a mea culpa comment? Come on, Butler was not very good today. Last week he allowed 150 yards to Chad O. Does that mean he got torched? No, because again the stats are deceiving. Most of those yards were in zone coverage and in garbage time. You see, if you want to live and die by the stats, you live and die by the stats. DB did not play well today and that was obvious to anyone watching the game. Also, I did not say he sucked, I said he had a terrible game. I think he'll emerge as a solid cornerback, but today was not good.

They arent my stats.
It is what happened on the football field.
The fact that the Patriots lost doesnt change that what you are saying is simply wrong.

Butler is starting by default.

Bodden is out and he is in. He may get better or stay the same, but Bodden was ahead of Butler for playing time.

I consider terrible game and sucked to be about the same thing.

Its not a matter of stats.

Its a matter of comments like 'he couldnt cover him all day long' that are just untrue. When a corner is owned by a WR they PRODUCE a lot more than Edwards did.

Edwards PRODUCED a very mediocre game for a #1 WR. If Butler was terrible today then either Edwards really stinks or pretty much every corner out there sucks.

If he got beat 5 times, that is reasonable amount for a corner to get beaten in a day.
The intereference calls were blown. Feel free to disagree.

We had a lot of problems out there today, but holding their #1 WR to 5 catches for 45 yards wasnt very high on the list.
