I think anyone who has read Patriot Reign or The Blueprint is familiar with Belichick's basic philosophy: Take away what the other team does best, and force them to do something that they are not comfortable with.

For the purposes of this game, that meant taking away the run and forcing Sanchez to beat you with his arm. Notice how during last weeks game (Cincy), there was alot of pre-snap movement and stemming - and the blitz was there. Their first priority was the pass. Seems like Bill expected the Jets to stay conservative like they did with the Ravens. Even when they had Nickel personnel, it seems like they were run first all game. The Jets came out throwing, and NE had no real answer -- ironically those passes also opened up the run game too, IMO.

Reminds me of what happened against the Ravens and Eagles in 2007 -- where Boller and AJ Feeley had what must have been career games against a very good, veteran Pats D.

The Pats got beat by a better team, period, and there was nothing anyone could do about that. We are in rebuild mode, hopefully we rebuild fast, before Brady's skills erode completely.

Sadly he has lost it, no better than third best coach in the division at this stage. Could be even with Sparono, but Ryan's schemes put Bill to shame.

When is the last time the D made a big play to win the game? When is the last time the the opposing QB said after the game that the Pats defense threw some really unexpected looks or schemes at him?

This is exactly what I'm arguing against. Bill game-planned with that same philosophy throughout his entire career. I specifically cited similar approaches in two games in 2007.

I remember specifically that they played a 4-3 in SB 39 just to force Donovan to stay in the pocket. Imagine what would've happened if Donovan simply stayed in the pocket and hit the high percentage pass instead of trying to scramble?

I remember the SB 36 gameplan revolved around taking Marshall Faulk out of the passing game -- imagine what would've happened Martz just kept the ball on the ground and ran it?

Today we don't have to imagine. The Jets essentially neutralized the Pats gameplan by passing. They did it well. Give them props. Not the end of the season. I doubt it happens in the rematch (at least to the other 10 guys not named Butler).

The last time they had good players. Belichick is a genius when he has good players. We've rebuilt the D, its green and learning, l;ets see what they look like in week 17.

Every board in all sports is like that. Take a look at the jets board, last tuesday they were thinking 0-16, now they're thinking 15-1 and saying Sanchez is the next Nameth. Look at the Bengals board, last week it was all doom and gloom and now its like woohoo!

We're 1-1. Bill hasn't lost it. Tom's ok. Our D is green and will get better with experience. They'll have good weeks and bad weeks. Last week they were good, this week not so good. We're not going 15-1 nor are we going 1-15. I still see over 10 wins for us. Will that be good enough to get in? Who knows, but usually it is.

Please tell us, even with the benefit of 20-20 hindsight, what the coaching staff should have done with their game plan.

When the Pats had Seymour, Wilfork, and Warren to stuff the run, there wasn't much gameplanning to be done there. You have three beasts up front who are physically going to dominate. The Jets have a similar situation; their d-line will mash running games on their own. Same with Pittsburgh.

Belichick needs to gameplan to stop the run, since the guys up front can't do it on their own. Think about how that affects the rest of the defense, and how coaches with monsters on the line are able to get creative with their schemes.
