Already Patriots All Access is creating a stir...AT LEAST in some eyes at ch 4...They ARE trying to make a big deal out of NOTHING...Coach B said that it would be a hostile environment in NY when they played the Jets...saying that is the opposite of how it was against Cinci last week. Somehow THAT is an affront to fans...HUH????????? These idiots at 4 can't even understand that OF COURSE it would be the opposite playing an opponent with the crowd. hostile. TALK about digging for something that isn't there......

In all fairness, they could just be incredibly stupid. Lately I'm beginning to think the media are not malicious so much as "speshul" people who ride a different bus to work.

Sports departments of local news stations tend to not be the brightest folk. This is a total lack of comprehension. Just like after Bradys accident they had 7 reporters all in individual little windows on screen. 4 of them with Gillette Stadium as the background, which made it easy to tell they were each like 5 feet from each other. Their all wannabe actors... Not sports people.

You can lay the blame squarely with the TV executives who, beginning in the 80's shifted their news departments into their entertainment divisions. It's been pretty much a predictable decline in actual reporting, with the resulting increase in presentation values.

What a lot of folks do not understand is that Television networks, like Radio and print media are designed to do one thing: Sell Advertising. That's where the money is. News media exists to make money, and the absolute lion's share of that money comes through advertising dollars. Subscription fees normally pull in maybe 2% or revenue at best.

How do they get people and, especially, corporations and other businesses to buy advertising? By showing a large number of readers, and other demographics. More bang for the advertiser's bucks.

They get people to WATCH and buy and listen to them by running sensational stories and by generating conflict. Conflict makes people take sides, and start talking about the stories, and THAT gets the news sources mentioned, and THAT sells advertising.

Anyway, the point is that you should always get your news from a variety of sources and compare the stories. Do your homework and understand that the reporters are there to create controversy. If they can slant, spin or nuance what someone says to make the story more salacious, they will. Every. Single. Time.

respects,

I tend to think this was NOT the sports department that did this..IF it was..they are MIGHTY dumb.....I agree they wish to create controversy and conflict BUT to me THIS station owed Coach B an apology...and the sooner the better!!!!
I was having breakfast when I first saw this...and I wondered OK what did he say?? WHat did he say that was a DIG against fans...I listened and heard this story 3 times..complete with a smiling newsman reading canned words...There was NOTHING that Bill said that was an issue at all...SHAME on channel 4 for their stupidity!!!!!

Belichick took a minor swipe at Pats fans too.

Last night I was watching the Channel 4 news on channel 38 at 09:00 pm.

They showed a clip of the Patriots All Access show from this week.
Beliichik was talking about how loud it was going to be at the new
stadium this week.

He then said.... It will not be anything like last weeks games against the
Bengals.

Re: Belichick took a minor swipe at Pats fans too.

Pats fans that go to the games are really getting their money's worth this week. I wish I lived near Foxboro and had the dough to go to the games. I'd be hoarse week in and week out. However, I don't live in Foxboro and I definitely don't have the credit to take out the mortgage payment it would take to go to the games.

Re: Belichick took a minor swipe at Pats fans too.

And he is correct.

Your right..... but feel free to give Kraft a little credit for the noise level.

His stadium is open at both ends, which I am told does not help the
noise level.

The club seats ticket holders can go "in side" which leaves a lot of
empty seats.

Empty seats don't make much noise.

I stay to the end of the games, but I don't test my vocal cords when
we have a 21 point lead.

I yell plenty when it matters.

Nah, you would be asked to sit down and be quiet.

Re: Belichick took a minor swipe at Pats fans too.

BTW, I tuned into EEI this morning for the first time in about a year. They were talking about the "down in front" people. Dennis and Callahan were siding with them, they think people should sit in their seats during games. Standing is for savages or something.

I then switched to 98.5 the sports hub and they were on the opposite side, saying the people who want to sit should sit on their couch.

I thought it was interesting how the two stations were on different sides of the issue and perhaps that is representative of the fanbase that listens to each station.

Re: Belichick took a minor swipe at Pats fans too.

I just don't get it. I usually go to the razor twice a year (except last year where I couldn't go at all). I went last weekend and lost my voice by halftime, as always. The stadium was the loudest I had ever heard it in the first half -- aside from the San Diego game after spygate (the cheer for BB was ear-splitting in that game).

It may have had something to do with where I was sitting (section 102). Every other time I've been in the 300s...

Edit: Oh, and I have NEVER been asked to sit down, including last week....

Re: Belichick took a minor swipe at Pats fans too.

I watched the game on Sunday from the comfort of my home. I was a little disappointed with the noise level too. When you can here the audibles of the opposing QB on 3rd down, that's just not right, IMO. That does not happen for Brady when he is on the road. Those fans make lots of noise. Maybe it is the design of our stadium like others have said, but I don't think that's the only reason. Who knows?

Re: Belichick took a minor swipe at Pats fans too.

He said they'll face a hostile environment, unlike the game against the Bengals. Which is obvious, seeing as you cannot face a hostile atmosphere when you are the home team, playing in front of your own crowd. That wasn't a shot at Pats fans, let's all take a deep breath and stop being so paranoid.

I saw the preview this a.m. on TV and he actually said the Jets crowd would be "hostile" and said that was the opposite of last week's Foxboro crowd. Very open to interpretation -- Pats fans certainly weren't hostile to the Pats, but were they hostile enough to the Bengals?

But I didn't hear any references to volume.

Re: Belichick took a minor swipe at Pats fans too.

I think people are misinterpreting these remarks.

Brady said that the Foxboro crowd was a friendly home crowd for them. He then said, THOUGH, I wish they would stay longer.

Belichick said Foxboro was a friendly place to play for them. And that wouldn't be the case against the Jets, obviously.

They are not saying Foxboro is not hard on their opposition (though, maybe Brady hinted at it).

But either way, BB wasn't knocking the crowd at Foxboro, merely pointing out they lose their home stadium advantage this week and go into a hostile environment.

Is Hostile loud or quiet?
I assumed Hostile as being loud.

Can you be Hostile and quiet?

Maybe those Jets fans will just give Brady a dirty look !

Re: Belichick took a minor swipe at Pats fans too.

Fan support and noise level can significantly impact play from both an emotional and strategic standpoint. That said, I don't think Bill was backing the players (they been saying this for a long time) so much as pointing out that this young team as a team hasn't faced let alone experienced that can't hear yourself think level of noise yet so it could be a factor in how well they perform. JETS fans at least in the early going (and throughout if it remains a close contest) will be as desperate for a win as their team is and pretty intent on perceiving themselves as a factor. Nothing Pats fans can do about that, it will be up to the team to do enough to take them out of the equation...and not allow them back into it.

That said, it's been a long time since this team felt a fan base that was desperate for a win had their back. I will never forget one sign at the last regular season game in 2001 that summed up what those fans felt - All I Want For Christmas Is A Home Playoff Game. More often than not since 2003-2004 and especially since 2007 they get the entitled fan base that becomes disgruntled if not disgusted at the first sign of struggle and turns on them... And while in the past fans remained to celebrate victories, now they seemingly relish those more as an opportunity to beat traffic...
