No one's going to know who this guy will be in the NFL until sometime around November this year. Even at that, the Jets are a run oriented offense tucked into a defense-oriented team, and I think that's the picture you'll see if you dissect the 2009 Jets stats. There's really only a casual relationship between the Jets record and Sanchez' number of throws. The Jets had two strong backs; one who ran for 100 yards seven times during the season, and another who did it twice in playoffs.
You're right about one thing - his problem in 2009 was his pick:TD ratio. I suspect that's why Schottenheimer loaded him up with check downs; to avoid locking into a bad play and throwing downfield into coverage. But the kid has been a quality quarterback at every level. I expect he'll learn. So, the emphasis for now is still on "kid."
As far as Don Banks' point goes, I wouldn't trust Jeff Garcia to make me an uncomplicated sandwich, let alone run my team.
