First of all, this is not Bashing Mark Sanchez because he plays for the Jets...for the most part, he is an exciting player...Good scrambler, throws on the run, decent arm, very energetic, etc, etc....

However....

His stats from Monday nights game were very typical of last year and although the Jets got hot at the right time and used that momentum all the way to the AFCCG last year....it was NOT Sanchez who was responsible for that.

Granted, Baltimore has a very good defense that will match up favorably against many teams in the NFL....There were several moments in that game when Sanchez should have been able to keep drives going...but never got into a rhythm and to me, looked very much like the player he was last year.

Maybe the Jets will go after our secondary, but again, I don't think that is going with thier stregnth and certainly not Sanchez's.

Although the Jets are a popular pick to go deep into the playoffs by many....(not us, of course)...If Sanchez can't get it done Sunday...and continues to look like he did last year and the Baltimore game....Having a QB that is a liability is a huge team morale killer.

Maybe Sanchez will get it going eventually, but nothing I've seen of him so far gives me the confidence that he will.

Re: Evaluating Mark Sanchez....

Sanchez needs a better quarteback coach nad a better offense. Unless he gets better coaching (and better support), he will be a bust. BTW, I do think that he has the talent to be a middle of the road starter in the nfl.

Re: Evaluating Mark Sanchez....

Here is my evaluation of Mark Sanchez... Johnny Damon without the Pro Talent.

Re: Evaluating Mark Sanchez....

Sanchez has average arm strenght and decision-making skills. His only good trait is throwing on the run, but the Jets rarely have him rollout or run a bootleg. I see a guy whose confidence is shaken and whose coaching staff doesn't trust to take over a game. I think they come out throwing against the Patriots to try to catch them off guard, but Sanchez isn't nearly good enough to scare me . This guy's problem is not only mental, but physically he just doesn't have all the tools and doesn't appear to be all that talented.

Re: Evaluating Mark Sanchez....

so far, it looks like sanchez lacks the mental capacity to be an NFL starter.

he needed to sit for a year. now he has nightmares

Re: Evaluating Mark Sanchez....

He was mediocre last year and will be this year.

Re: Evaluating Mark Sanchez....

I think the bright lights of New York have made him lose focus, and he's spent more time at parties than in his playbook. But I also blame the Jets coaching staff.

If nothing else, this guy was supremely confident coming out of USC. Now he looks terrified of looking down-field.

It certainly seems like he is not on the same page with the OC sometimes.

Some of the play-calling was questionable at times, and I would put that on the OC, not the QB.

Re: Evaluating Mark Sanchez....

People forget Sanchez wasn't a good bet pre draft. Even Pete said so. They all have tools at that level, few have the capacity to develop beyond that level even under ideal circumstances. Just look at Leinart. Even Palmer. Sanchez landed in the wrong spot based on desperation. Cassel landed in the right spot and he had a dog fight just to hang there. But having done that he's still got a shot. It's as much about mental acuity and mental toughness as it is tools at the next level. The coaching staff in NY was concerned about him last season. The breaks they caught masked all that down the stretch. Coming back this year they made assumptions and then much to their chagrin realized he wasn't progressing on multiple levels. Depending on luck again, this could get real ugly real quick or it could just ebb and flow for a while in the process of treading water.

100%. I was watching Monday night and thought, "there's something wrong with this guy that can't be coached up." You nailed it.

Re: Evaluating Mark Sanchez....

Pete Carroll was right. Sanchez wasn't ready to go to the NFL. The guy seems to lack confidence and good decision making. I think Brian Schottenheimer is getting too much crap for not throwing down the field, but I saw several times Sanchez did look down the field and checked off and dumped the ball. Couldn't see the coverage, but how fast he dumped off the ball it looked like he didn't wait for the play to develop.

I think the Jets is worst place for a guy like Sanchez. This guy was never going to be a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady in that he was going to step into the starting line up and perform right off the bat. If he is ever going to be a great QB, he needs to be developed like a Drew Brees was. Ryan by his own admission last year barely cared about the offense last year and focused his attention on the defense. Ryan is also writing a lot checks his QB is going to have to cash with all the trash talking. Now teams see blood in the water with Sanchez and see him as the weak link of the team and will attack him more.

Sanchez could become an elite QB someday. I tend to doubt it. I think Rex Ryan and Brian Schottenheimer is going to ruin this guy.

Apparently they were attempting to have him do some big boy things at the LOS (with counts and cadence and motion) to unmask the defense and it ended up confusing themselves and unmasking the fact that he's not getting his eyes downfield because his reads are taking too much time. The plan is apparently to roll the dice and dumb it down for us... Schottenheimer is taking most of the heat for now... But the thing is they knew they had issues weeks ago when they first took the field in pre season.

I hoping by mid-season Ron jaworski will shut up about how Mark Sanchez has "it" and he's the next Tom Brady.

I love when I (we) am (are) right. The guy sucks.

20 INT
10 FUM

Yeah he's got it.

Hahaha big boy things

I'm not going to say Sanchez sucks...But even buffoons like Rothlisburger and Rivers had it together WAY more than Sanchez after 20 games in the NFL...

I agree. A few of those checkdowns seemed to come so quickly, the back wasn't even fully turned around or expecting the ball.

And I think he would have been better off going somewhere else. NYC with that coaching staff are probably going to screw him up.

He sucks..end of evaluation
