Hopefully. I think Moss was sincere that he's going to play hard this season - he has a huge financial incentive to do so so I don't think Belichick is too concerned about that either.

Beyond that I think Belichick understands why Moss would put in a plug for an extension rather than having to possibly wait until the next free agency period after a lockout in 2012 when he'll be 35. There's very little chance he'd get a better deal then than he would with an extension now.

Yup, and the fact that the PC was quite later makes me wonder if Moss knew exactly what he was doing so that he can be in the limelight and get this contract done soon.

But again, Moss was stringent in claiming that he will give his best to the team and not undermine the season, right? I believe him and so expect him to be a monster. Let's see.

This is the part that gives me encouragement: from the article..."Mainly, Moss believes he needed to make his comments now so it won’t be a distraction later. Moss feels like this is a good team. He was clear on that. He went back to 2007, his last contract year, and said, Imagine if he’d spoken about a contract in Week 13… How bad would that have looked?"

From all accounts he's ALWAYS been a great teammate. He hates the media. Just like BB's personality is radically different when he's away from the media, I expect it's similar with Moss.

Concur. The thing with Moss is that he has always been a great player with New England. He practices hard, he plays hard, and he leads by example. He's always prepared. I hope he gets what he wants, because he's earned it. I hope he stays here for the rest of his career.

I know you and I differ on this subject, but during a 2 or 3 game stretch not giving 100% on every play is not being a good teammate. Lets not go back to last year though. Yesterday was not the time to have a PC like that, it is being selfish and taking away from the win. Instead of not talking at all during TC, have a PC at the end of TC and let it all out then. Dont do it after the first game when the attention should have been on the Pats victory.

Well that has never happened.

Another note is by running at 85% speed, the DB will adjust to that speed to stick with you. When all of a sudden you hit the NOS and you blow past them before they even know what hit them. Since the body language doesn't change it's almost impossible to accurately judge the speed boost with your eyes until it's just too late.

To even entertain the idea that one of the best, most intelligent, hardest working receivers to ever play in the NFL just decides not to play at random points is beyond ludicrous IMO. It just proves to me how large the of an influence the media has. No other receiver would have his integrity questioned based on a handful of nitpicked plays.

His "unhappy" comment was only recently blown out of proportion. He couldn't clarify it during the week as that was preparation time. He didn't want to clarify it week 13 either when all the goons come out and accuse him of being a dog faker because he's "unhappy".

Seriously, I think he figures if he plays his ass of and stays in incredible shape, people should leave him alone. He can't make a joke, have a life, or have an injury without 10 writers leading the sports page calling him a faker and a cancer, which he is not on this team.

With his age, contract and the lockout, I think this is all getting to him and he felt like he had to get it off his chest.

He'd rather stay here and get a competitive contract, he's an emotional guy and he's trying to focus on the season, which is right.

After a win, after a loss, in the middle of the week, what's the difference? He's respected in the locker room and by the management, but they aren't going to rush on deciding a new contract. Give him the pat on the back, he deserves it, and play ball and do business when the time is right.

I agree he didn't need to, but when's the last time a human being did -nothing- they shouldn't have done? This really is not a big deal IMO. And talking about it late last week during preparations for game 1 of the regular season would have been worse. There was NO better time to say it, if he had to say it. I'm not going to jump on the guy because he wanted to clarify something even I don't agree that he should have. For all the guy has done throughout his career and specifically here the last 3 years, it's ridiculous at how such a small thing can get people all holier-than-thou.

Was it selfish? Yes.

Was the timing inappropriate? Yes.

Could it have been handled better? Absolutely.

Does Randy play his heart out for this team? Absolutely. I don't see him 'dogging' anything. He was injuried last year.

Does he want to retire a Patriot? I think so, and I think that is what he is asking for.

We are talking about a big kid here, somebody that is highly introverted, somewhat paranoid and yes he feels slighted at not being offered a contract.

This is his way of getting attention from BB, and he got his little office visit and that is really what he wanted. Hopefully he settles down now and plays with a chip on his shoulder.

Ironically, I don't doubt that he would be offered an extension at some point. BB treated players like Corey Dillon pretty well, for instance. BB will offer him something, even after this unseemly incident.

Maybe Moss likes the team and the owners but not the media. Maybe he is not the most articulate kid and just kind of got lost in his words. Maybe once he was off the stage, among friends, he was able to recover. Nothing but positive stuff coming out of foxboro regarding moss -- except when the media is in town.

I disagree that he put himself above the team. He clarified something early so that it wouldn't become something the team had to deal with in 10 weeks after a loss. What it means to be about the team is to come to work, and do your job. Moss has obviously continued to do that. A few words after a victory to clear something up, while arguably unnecessary is not being a bad teammate.

I thought he was more talking to us, the fans, trying to make the point that he knows the media is going to keep trashing him but his intention is to try and play at the highest level he can. It's got to be kind of tough that he is one of the team's superstars but takes more abuse from the press than any other player in recent memory. He seems to understand the business realities of his situation also.
I didn't come away with the feeling he was making a statement about the team, or the coach or the owners but he just made the mistake of thinking out loud at what was not really the best time or place or audience to do so.
As a fan, I'm pretty happy with what he said to me and it would be just fine if he were to be back here next year if he still sees things the same way.

Moss is selfish. He could not just let the comment go, he had to have this rant. I dont think it was just a few words, it was 15 minutes. Another thing is how could anyone really take him seriously with the outfit he had on. Your a 13 year vet, dress like a professional. Yeah, Moss shows up everyday and puts his work in no denying that, but attracting extra attention to yourself is not being a good teammate. I dont think Moss gained much respect from his teammates after that. He is supposed to be a leader and a model for the younger players on the team. That wasnt exactly setting the best example.

I agree with everything you said and the message that Moss sent. There was just a better time for that to be done. Not 30 minutes following the teams first win of the year.
