Ah,yes ...the year was 2007 and the Patriots had just got done demolishing the New York Jets by a score of 38-14

In that game Brady threw for 3 TDs and was 22-28 for 297 Yards

This game was eerily similar with Brady throwing 25-35 for 258 Yards

That team then went on to defeat thier next victim by the SAME score of 38-14 enroute to an undefeated regular season and smashing all sorts of records.

While I do not expect the team to do anything near that 16-0 mark and the very young defense will certainly have struggles along the way,I do think this offense is certainly capable of breaking the 2007 Patriots 589 points mark set in 2007,this offense at RB is much the same but the TEs are 100x better, the receivers below Welker and Moss are could be as good as Gaffney and Stallworth and the Mankins,Kaczur-less OL looked promising yesterday against one of the best pass rushing defenses in the league.

IMO This offense is overall better than 2007 IMO with the only question of the OL holding up

The defense should get a break knowing the Pats should be able to score 24 or more each game and if they can hold opponents to 23 or less it could be an exciting season.

Lots of questions to come in the next 3 months, but I like the answers we were given so far in the early going in week 1.

And in that game IIRC the opening kickoff of the second half was also returned for a TD by the Patriots, then Ellis Hobbs.....

We won't score as many points as that team did. However, I do believe this offense is more multi-faceted than the 2007 team, with better potential and versatility amongst the TE's, and (assuming relative health) more depth at RB. I also think the emphasis this year will be on ball control, and less on explosiveness, which will limit points scored.

Also, I'm not thinking about 16-0 until we're 15-0. Right now I just want to go 2-0, and see what happens.

Yay! Super Bowl loss - here we come!

Except the offense only scored 24 of those points. Then again, the 2007 game featured a nice kickoff return for a TD.

I made the joking remark with my family that it looked like the 2007 Pats all over again, but I'm not so sure I see that in this team's future. We'll have to see. Of course, I'm not saying I would mind another 16-0 season, as long as it ends in a SB victory.

Yup. One game at a time.

We'll have a better idea of what we are up against next Sunday by 10 PM tonight.

I will admit that the similarities (in terms of the game) are kind of eery (same total points, open second half with a KR TD).

With the addition of the TE's this offence is more rounded than 2007...I would like to see the clock killin come in to play more and keep our D off the field...On a side note I watched Ben Watson drop passes all day yesterday...No big loss there....

Can we tape from the sidelines this time?

Well the 2001 Pats, the ones that actually WON a SB started off their season losing to the Bengals who were terrible back then. That Pats team went on to LOSE to the Jets in their next game as well. Afterwards...

Too high after the wins, too low after the losses. Let's wait a few games before we compare this offense to the greatest offense of all time.

Does that mean Brady will get knocked out for 2 months in the 2nd quarter this week?...Does Mo Lewis have a relative currently on the Jets team?

No we broke that cycle by winning yesterday :) and will win vs the Jets. Whither the SB in Feb is TBD.

Sports fans are extremists. Either this team is destined for 16-0 one week or destined for 7-9 the next. I agree, give the team some time. I like what I saw on offense, and while I don't know if they'll put up the points the 07 squad did, I agree that this offense is capable of being alot more balanced.

The defense now..Let me start off by saying this defense has the talent to be top 3 in the league, no doubt about it. OTOH, they showed signs of the same issues as last year. The defense needs work, and there will be going pains. One thing I noticed and it was the first thing Harrison mentioned on SNF highlights how well the defense communicated. If they're communicating like this in week 1, I expect the defense to atleast know full well what it's doingat the end of th season. I don't know if we'd be capable of stopping a team like the Saints, but I doubt we'll see another repeat performance of the defense wondering WTF is going on while they're getting torched.

I wasn't happy with the amount of passing yards Palmer put up. But McCourty looked soooo good he locked down TO AND Ocho (until they put each one on Butler) I didn't see Palmer even throw to #32's side barely, folks this was his 1st game. I'm excited. But they really took advantage of Butler. That was a terrrrrible performance by #28, and I was curious as to why they didn't try to double cover Butler's man or something.
