Borges defends Moss

The much-maligned Borges makes a strong case that the media is making a mistake and over reacting to Moss' comments - a 135-word, 53-second comment which CBS Sports trumpeted as an "exclusive interview" with Moss.

Stop the Randy Moss hysteria - BostonHerald.com

Ron Borges may indeed morph into Wrong Borges any time he writes anything to do with Bill Belichick, but this is actually a solid column in my opinion. If nothing else he gets a thums up for calling out Felger.
For those 135 words he’s been ripped on local radio, TV and in print as if he uttered some blasphemy like, “Bill Belichick is not a genius.”

What’s the big deal?

Certainly there are reasons to criticize Moss. He at times takes plays off. Yet, the truth is if you put a spyglass on almost anyone for every play you’ll find that a few times jogging is the preferred form of locomotion. If a wide receiver does it problems can develop, however, so Moss opens himself up to criticism.

But short of that, what has he done to engender the kind of bile thrown at him by folks like 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Michael Felger, who spoke about Moss as if he caught him in his underwear drawer?

Borges points out to all those that were concerned about his missing a practice that Moss seldom practiced on Wednesdays all last year, and that he and Logan Mankins are the only two players to have played offense in every game three years. Borges also goes on to compare Moss' production with that of other top receivers in the game during that time period and notes Reggie Wayne is the only other top receiver to appear in all 48 games - and he has 21 fewer touchdowns than Moss.

Now I know there are some that would prefer - make that insist - on not clicking on a Ron Borges article. So if you prefer Ian Rapoport has a summary with some quotes from his blog, which is how I found Borges' column.

Mostly because Randy's comments were "unflattering" toward the Patriots. Apparently, Borges still buys into the "taking plays off" bit, so I'm rather nonplussed.

Then again, I love Borges. I just HAD to have some of his wisdom in my signature for all to see.

Fred Taylor thinks that Moss is misunderstood by the media.

It Is What It Is Fred Taylor on D&H: Randy Moss is ‘misunderstood’

Taylor was asked about what Randy Moss is like as a teammate, and he had plenty of positive things to say. “Randy’s misunderstood form the outside looking in, for the most part,” Taylor said. “In this locker room, you would love to have him as a teammate. I’m sure the receivers do. Everybody else, he’s always trying to get a little energy, a little spark from the players. You know: ‘Hey, guys, let’s go. Keep your head up.’ In a nutshell, he’s an awesome teammate. I don’t want to get carried away, but he’s a great teammate to have.”

Rapaport referred to himself only FOUR times in that piece. He's gradually becoming less narcissistic.

Well, he is crediting himself with breaking the news that a colleague wrote a column.

So Borges is a moron when he writes a critical piece, but when he writes a positive one he makes valid points?

Got it.

Not sure why anyone thinks he's made any valid points here. He's still a moron.

Borges latches on to any contract situation he can use to cause dissension and turmoil.

I'll read it later, but the chance he has changed from the evil troll under the bridge, to actually helping someone seems remote to me.

Since they just gave Brady a kajillion dollars, I'm thinking Borges "Randy's underpaid and disrespected by the cheap, criminal Kraft/Belichick regime" column will be out in a week and a half instead of a week.

exactly what i thought. he has lost the brady argument so now is latching on to randy's comment. Well..moss made this comment monday. Why 4 days for this to come up with. ?

Rap's naivete is showing. That's what happens when you came here from covering Alabama... None of Ron's actual peers find this odd. Ron is stalking his next malcontent inside source...the only kind he's had in the Belichick era.

Not sure which party is quoted, but I'd like to address the "Moss takes plays off" baloney.

The guy plays about every minute of every game, most of the time running long routes. He runs more than anyone on the field, I'd wager.

When he draws double coverage, plus a third leaner out of position, and the first option is elsewhere, he's done, as far as I'm concerned.

There's a difference between play makers and game breakers, who bust there ass, and charlie hustles making loud, non useful plays to impress the camera and the writers. You can bet your ass every team in the league would love to have the Patriot's version of Moss and that's the only one I know or care about.

Same thoughts as mine. Hope Moss doesn't fall prey.
