This means NOTHING but odd parallel that popped into my mind last night:

Something I just happened to remember: 2001 Beldsoe signs a record deal w/ Pats. Game 1 @ Bengals - Loss, Game 2 vs Jets - Loss and Bledsoe injured - enter Tom Brady and Super Bowl. 2010 Brady sign record deal. Game 1 vs Bengals. Game 2 @ Jets... What's gonna happen? Super Bowl with Brian Hoyer?!?

While the op IMO is in bad form (I also think Bledsoe signed his contract in 2000, not 01 but i col be wrong) it is interesting to look back at 01, because the first 2 opponents are the same.
We looked putrid in Cincy, then worse at home against the Jets.
Given the doom and gloom, .500 predictions and such around here these days, its an interesting perspective.
If we lose these 2 games and look terrible doing it, we are in the same spot as the 2001 Champs.
The relevance being, nothing matters until the games are played on the field.

lets not compare to 01....

we had second seed with a 10-6 record? the second to last time we had that record we MISSED the playoffs....

11-5 and yeah we missed the playoffs with that record.

No we were 11-5, not 10-6 and yes a 2 seed

I'm not comparing except to say what it looks like isn't always what it is.
It would be nice if we could revert this board back to the days where playing games mattered.

You mean instead of looking at mystical/irrelevant formulas like if(x-y)then z/new contract x 2001+1996 = Pats start 2-0? Yeah, that'll be good. But, heck, the games haven't started yet and we're all accumulating posts here in the meantime because we're, you know, fans.

I think we're all thankful the games are starting.

don't go there.

lol - this post wasn't the least bit serious. It's a coincidence and nothing more.

It's like Abe Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy and John F Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln... <chirp> <chirp>... who cares... just one of those little coincidences that NO conclusions can be drawn from. An odd, obscure fact that popped into my head of random Patriots memories.

(FYI - Bledsoe signed in March 2001 to a 10yr deal)

Two more days until the comparisons end...or continue :bricks:

So, we are comparing this team to two great patriots teams that went to the Super Bowl: 1996 and 2001. And both of these lost their first two games.

I would prefer to extend the string of Brady regular seasons at home. It has been ahile since he lost one, against the jets in 2006.
