How much and how long would you extend his contract?
I don't know if he would take it ... 2 years $10 million with a $6 million guarantee.
Would anyone pay him more than that anyways at his age?
Somehow i don't think Belichick would give him more than $4 million a year at a time.
I think he has a few years left of value even in a diminished role.
I believe he still has value as a leader, in the meetings, and at practice to the team.
Question: does Moss have a clause in his contract that prohibits them from franchising him? I know that was somehow part of the deal when he came here. Seems to me he'd be an ideal franchise candidate, assuming Brady and (don't laugh) Gostkowski are locked up.
Wow, you want to pay a receiver that has compiled 3,765 receiving yards and 47 TDs in the last three years 4 to 5 million dollars a year...
Getting a logical comment from captain insano is akin to asking Muslim fundamentalists to endorse Christ as their savior. Moss hasn't been a problem and has performed. Not much else he can do is there.Appropriate screen name!
I dont think they mind paying him another 9 million a year I just dont think they want to tie him up for more than two more years. Maybe two years for $18 mill.
Moss is a likely franchise player if the parties don't agree to a long-term contract. Also, I think the FO has finished for awhile having extended Banta-Cain, Bodden, Wilfork, Gostkowski and now Brady.

The three left who it would be great to sign/extend are Mankins, Moss and Light.
I was curious to have a peak at the 2011/2012 players signed when you mentioned this. Although it is fairly hard to predict who will be starters/depth in future years, but I thought it'd be a fun exercise to try to do, and then thought what the heck, I may as well share it - so I'll apologise for the mistakes and my atrocious football knowledge in advance.:bricks:
As it stands in sept 2010 we are returning by my count 18 starters for 2011 already.
D
We have a lot of players signed on D for next year.
22 of the current 26 on defence are signed to 2011, including all 11 starters on the current depth chart (?G. Warren?). The four not are White, Page, G. Warren and Arrington.
14 for 2012, including 10 starters.
Excluding Meriweather, Sanders, Guyton, Wheatley, Wilhite, Ninko, Love and Murrell, but adding Ty and Bodden.
O
The O is harder to talk about returning starters for 2011, as we could say 8 from 2010, but we would lose 3 big time players in Light, Moss and Mankins, plus Taylor and Faulk.
15 of the 24 are signed for 2011, missing Light, Mankins, Moss, Faulk, Taylor, Maroney, Morris, I'm not sure about Wendell and BJGE - would they be RFAs?
8 are signed for 2012, and it's easier to say who is signed; Brady, Vollmer, Kaczur, Gronk, Hernandez, Tate, Price, Eldeman
We seem to lack a little O-Line depth for 2011 and 2012 at this snapshot in time, and the RB's look like it could be a complete rebuild.
ST we have locked up till 2012
I can't really say I've paid enough attention to notice trends in years past, but maybe someone could help me, is this about the normal amount of players we have under contract for future years?
I think what I am trying to say is, I'm not sure of the cap ramifications, but it will be interesting to see whether the FO discern it is better value to resign our vets (I imagine Light, Moss, Taylor and Faulk would sign for similar $$$/year as they earn now), work through FA, use the excellent draft picks we have, or develop our own current reserves to replace Moss, Light, Mankins and the Rb's, and increase the quality of OLBs and DE if still needed. What do you guys think?
It's fun to speculate, and I think you are right and we are done extending for the foreseeable future due to uncertainty of the CBA, but if it'd go under a cap (if we have one), the team would look very good for future years with 1 or 2 of those signed at some point for next season.
