Fair Extension Value for Randy Moss???

i wouldnt offer him a thing. i will be happy when hes gone. hes a pain in the ass.

How much and how long would you extend his contract?

I don't know if he would take it ... 2 years $10 million with a $6 million guarantee.

Would anyone pay him more than that anyways at his age?

Somehow i don't think Belichick would give him more than $4 million a year at a time.

I think he has a few years left of value even in a diminished role.

I believe he still has value as a leader, in the meetings, and at practice to the team.

Wow, you want to pay a receiver that has compiled 3,765 receiving yards and 47 TDs in the last three years 4 to 5 million dollars a year...

Question: does Moss have a clause in his contract that prohibits them from franchising him? I know that was somehow part of the deal when he came here. Seems to me he'd be an ideal franchise candidate, assuming Brady and (don't laugh) Gostkowski are locked up.

See the sig. :)

You always start lower than what you can pay ... ;););)

Moss accepted a $9mil/year deal after catching 23 TD passes as a 31 year old.

Given his production, while elite, hasn't reached that level, and that Moss will be 34, I would think he's accept somewhat less in the salary dept. Something in the $7mil/year range sounds right to me.

The sticky wicket is the guaranteed money and length of contract. I don't see the Pats offering more than a two year deal at that kind of money.

Appropriate screen name!
Getting a logical comment from captain insano is akin to asking Muslim fundamentalists to endorse Christ as their savior. Moss hasn't been a problem and has performed. Not much else he can do is there.

I dont think they mind paying him another 9 million a year I just dont think they want to tie him up for more than two more years. Maybe two years for $18 mill.

I'd lace that deal with incentives at Randys age. A 50-60 percent guarantee, the rest in incentives.

But as soon as you deal with him.... you gotta deal with Wes.

And then comes the salary cap (Yes, I know about the uncapped year).

Moss has hands as soft as butter. Some of the best hands in the league. If we have te's that the safties actually have to cover then that will open up more opportunities for moss this year.

I think if Moss stays healthy he will have at least 15+ TD's this year.

$21m/3years i could stomach.

!5 million 2 years Randy.

What say you?

I think they should offer him a 4 year deal with highend up front, pay those years like he is the elite speed guys then the last 2 years pay him like he is a good posstion guy so 9 mill for the first two years then 6 million the last 2 years so a 4 year 30 million dollar contract

Considering Miles Austen just signed a 6 yr 54 mill contract 4 for 30 for Moss sounds about right and gurantee 15-20 mill of it

Moss is a likely franchise player if the parties don't agree to a long-term contract. Also, I think the FO has finished for awhile having extended Banta-Cain, Bodden, Wilfork, Gostkowski and now Brady.
=======
The three left who it would be great to sign/extend are Mankins, Moss and Light.

I was curious to have a peak at the 2011/2012 players signed when you mentioned this. Although it is fairly hard to predict who will be starters/depth in future years, but I thought it'd be a fun exercise to try to do, and then thought what the heck, I may as well share it - so I'll apologise for the mistakes and my atrocious football knowledge in advance.:bricks:

As it stands in sept 2010 we are returning by my count 18 starters for 2011 already.

D

We have a lot of players signed on D for next year.

22 of the current 26 on defence are signed to 2011, including all 11 starters on the current depth chart (?G. Warren?). The four not are White, Page, G. Warren and Arrington.

14 for 2012, including 10 starters.
Excluding Meriweather, Sanders, Guyton, Wheatley, Wilhite, Ninko, Love and Murrell, but adding Ty and Bodden.

O

The O is harder to talk about returning starters for 2011, as we could say 8 from 2010, but we would lose 3 big time players in Light, Moss and Mankins, plus Taylor and Faulk.

15 of the 24 are signed for 2011, missing Light, Mankins, Moss, Faulk, Taylor, Maroney, Morris, I'm not sure about Wendell and BJGE - would they be RFAs?

8 are signed for 2012, and it's easier to say who is signed; Brady, Vollmer, Kaczur, Gronk, Hernandez, Tate, Price, Eldeman

We seem to lack a little O-Line depth for 2011 and 2012 at this snapshot in time, and the RB's look like it could be a complete rebuild.

ST we have locked up till 2012

I can't really say I've paid enough attention to notice trends in years past, but maybe someone could help me, is this about the normal amount of players we have under contract for future years?

I think what I am trying to say is, I'm not sure of the cap ramifications, but it will be interesting to see whether the FO discern it is better value to resign our vets (I imagine Light, Moss, Taylor and Faulk would sign for similar $$$/year as they earn now), work through FA, use the excellent draft picks we have, or develop our own current reserves to replace Moss, Light, Mankins and the Rb's, and increase the quality of OLBs and DE if still needed. What do you guys think?

It's fun to speculate, and I think you are right and we are done extending for the foreseeable future due to uncertainty of the CBA, but if it'd go under a cap (if we have one), the team would look very good for future years with 1 or 2 of those signed at some point for next season.

DEFENSE
As you say, the defense is in place for 2011. Bodden and Warren will be back. Barrett and Lockett can battle for the 4th safety spot or we can bring back McGowan or Page. Ty Warren will come back to replace G. Warren. Basically, the defense should be better with 2011 additions, given how many kids are getting exxperience this year.

BTW, Arrington will be an ERFA and will be back.

I'm not saying that we will not try to upgrade the defense at DE and OLB. I expect that we will. But there are no holes left from this year.
===========

OFFENSE
This is where the resoures will need to be spent. After all, we have exactly ZERO running backs signed for next year. I would certainly like to see us re-sign Light and Moss, and extend Welker.
=============

BOTTOM LINE
The above is NOT a huge offseason NEED list: DE upgrade, OLB upgrade, re-sign Light, re-sign Moss and find some running backs. We went into 2010 with many more holes than that.

On the one hand I would say that may anger him.

On the other hand the tag is like $9.8 million or so I think ... not bad really for an old dude.
