Re: Heard on EEI Pat's trying out Charlie Anderson

Also, I think people are insane for being upset that they're combing the waiver wires. I'd love to find some player that's stuck behind some starters. Get a guy who's hungry to prove himself in the regular defense. Maybe a better fir for us that the defense he's playing on.

Mike Vrabel is only the most prominent example. I'm glad they cleaned out some deadwood and are looking for hungry players.

Miami's pass rush is awful..

I totally agree...there may be a diamond hidden among the many many cuts..takes a bit to find but??? WELL worth it.

Also Eric Moore, Carolina. same idea, stuck behind people at de/olb. Not much stats to show, though.

He's listed as a DL at one site, but he's not a DL for us at 260 or so.

OLB/DE is a risky position for us. Spending a 2 and trying out lots of guys sounds OK to me. Our biggest successes were a 4th overall and a free agent (Vrabel) and we spent big for three veteran players with mixed results.

I find it disheartening that they are bringing so many people in for a loo see at this stage of the season. I may be wrong, but I dont seem to recall this much activity before the start of any season in recent years.

It's either a ploy by BB, which I doubt, or there is a lot more situational problems then we actually realize.

But, in either case, it is curious and, as mentioned, disheartening.
Actually, it happens every year, all year long.
We bring in guys for a workout just to be prepared for future injuries or practice squad upgrades.
Doesn't mean that he wasnt here auditioning for a job right now, but the fact we are bringing people in is nothing unordinary.

I don't think nearly enough is being said about this. I can't see ST, the coverage teams at least, not being negatively impacted by these cuts. Woods and Aiken were surprise cuts to me, given their versatility and ST contributions. I can see the reasoning (Slater is needed as a backup KR to Tate, and Fletcher can perhaps equal Wood's contribution on ST), but in the short term I see a ST drop off, at least on the coverage teams.

Sorry to divert from the subject....but I think its as much a ST discussion as it is about charlie anderson

I think your focus on Spec Teams is commendable.

However, I am not so Bearish on my OutLook:

We just added McCourty, Price, Fletcher...and The Space Emperor (of Space). :D

And, having fully recovered and finally 100%, Tate, need I point out...is FEELING it.

I'm glad that Bill's still bringing in guys for workouts. The more, the merrier.

I'd rather have Charlie Anderson than Tracy White. Anderson has the size required for OLB, whereas White has the size for...Halfback. Plus, Anderson won't cost us a draft pick.

Is there anything we can do to re-hearten you? I take it this typical move has been troubling you. I think you'll find other moves, as mentioned, re-heartening.

Belichick has made his special teams choices.
ON THE TEAM: Slater, Fletcher, Murrell, White
OFF THE TEAM: Aiken, Alexander, McKenzie, Woods
Perhaps Murrell made team based on his LB skills.
===================================
I am surprised at the choices. I am sure that we are still looking for upgrades. I don't think that Slater's KR "skills" made much difference. He plays on all six special teams units and is a fine special teamer. McCourty or Maroney will return kicks if needed.

I'm heartened that they're bringing in olb/de candidates instead of needing to, but looking at every other freakin position on the field. Longshot to get a good one, but you can't win if you don't play.

I might be missing something but when is the last time slater returned a kickoff? Seems like everyone has been back there but him.....was surprised he is still here....Aiken was gd on special teams if nothing else.

5 STARS, Brother Raymond!!

I just want to STRANGLE the debris who roll out 587 different variations of "If he's not good enough for Team X, why should WE want him??"

  • [*]Mike Vrabel
    [*]Wes Welker
[*]Tom Brady, for that matter, in a larger sense.

It just AMAZES me that anyone could be that VAPID.

Yup. These are the same folks who likely never comparison shop before they buy anything.
