Do you still think Brady can throw the LONG ball?

i've never thought that Brady was particularly good on long throws. he definitely has the arm strength for it, but until Moss (perhaps the best deep ball catcher in the history of the game) came around they didn't connect very often. in his defense, he didn't throw a lot of deep passes in the first place due to the lack of quality receivers and the conservative offensive approach.

the term is "moot point." i know it doesn't really add anything to the discussion but i have to fend it off when i see it.

I never realized that about the "moot point"....don't think I ever saw it in print before....Thanks!!!!.......and good points.....GO PATS!

To be honest, it looked like Randy has to break stride ever so slightly to wait for the pass to arrive . . . ever so slightly.

Randy can fly. If that was anyone else, that pass would have hit them full stride or maybe even an overthrow. It's almost impossible to overthrow Randy. For example, everyone thought Culpepper had a great deep ball when he was throwing bombs to Moss, but when he stopped playing with Randy, he didn't have the same success. Hell, Randy made Jeff George look good.:D

No offense, but that sounds like a bit of an excuse for Brady to me. I love him like you do, but c'mon. I've seen Brady hit Moss in stride, and I've seen plays like that where Moss has to slow down a bit to get it. It's okay either way if Moss comes up with the catch to me.

Him wreaking his knee might have had something to do with it.

Randy Moss is my fav ever player, but I feel really bad for Culpepper. He was a damn good QB, and everyone thinks he's some scrub who just flung it too Moss every play.

Btw, Culpeppers best year was when Moss only had 700 yards, just saying;)

There isn't a single quarterback in the NFL who "connects often" in throws that travel 30 yards or further in the air...

I didn't say he was bad at them. I didn't say the sky was falling. In response to someone who said that he "has been able to throw the long bombs pretty darn well" I simply said that I don't think it's an area where he's ever been especially skilled.

I just find these kinds of responses very annoying, where people twist my words to make them something I never said. Saying that there might be a relatively insignificant aspect of Brady's game which isn't the greatest in the league isn't "questioning his ability."

Welcome to Patsfans.com. Saying anything remotely negative, even when it isn't really a negative statement, is enough to invoke a visceral reaction from most. You have to understand that anything other than saying, "Brady is the best deep thrower in the world" to get you run out of town around here.:D

Great points here Kontra (and everyone else for that matter) I am sure so much has to go into one of those long throws.....starting with making a confident throw and stepping in and letting it fly........Great replies here folks......and thanks for the youtube post....alot of great memories on that page!!!!

its like shooting a contested 3 in rhythm vs. having all day to shoot a wide open 3

Tom Brady has always been one of the most accurate and precise passers, has eyes in the back of his head and can sense the pressure like few before or now, and is the best clutch QB that has ever played the game......and overall, has been able to throw the long bombs pretty darned well......BUT can he still do it? 2008 was a wash, but last year he seemed to underthrow the long ball alot forcing receivers to come back to the ball.....or resulting in TO's.......Maybe it was because of the injury and he wasn't stepping into the throw last year.....but seemed like he had some difficulty throwing deep this preseason as well

Long bombs are not the key to a great offense obviously so it probably is a mute point, but when you have a burner like Tate out there.....will be necessary sometimes!!! Appreciate your opinions on this

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you are going to see a very different Brady this year than you saw last year. (In fact I think we already did in the preseason)
I don't think lingering worries about the injury had an impact.
I think that a year away from football caused him to relearn a lot of the timing nd touch aspects of the position, not to mention the speed of the game. Playing NFL QB at an all-time great level requires tremendous focus, attention to detail, concentration, feel and muscle memory, not to mention daily work on timing, accuracy, film study and analysis of defense.
To go away for a year is a substantial setback. I see in Brady this preseason that he has made up that gap, and I think his play (not necessarily his stats, but hsi play) willl be back to 2007 level.
