Seems odd that they are holding his roster spot, he is a serviceable player but nothing to write home about. Hopefully he is back sooner rather than later to provide additional depth.

If he comes back healthy at any point this season, he is the de facto starter at LG.

I'm totally out of the loop with Kaczur. Since he hasn't been even PUP'd, does that mean he's expected back within the first 4 weeks or so?

If nothing else his return adds much needed depth. Mankins' holdout pushed players one spot up on the depth chart; Kaczur's injury meant players were moving two spots up on the depth chart.

Kaczur>Connolly starting at guard
Connolly>Wendell as the top backup inside
Kaczur>LeVoir as the top backup tackle

Essentially the tradeoff now becomes Wendell for Kaczur.

Who do you want available on the bench if or when Stephen Neal gets hurt?
Who do you want available on the bench if Light or Vollmer gets sidelined?

In my opinion the Pats are far better off if Kaczur is available. That's a good enough reason to wait and see if he can play later this season.

Damn, I miss the days where Kaczur projected to be one of the best 4-position backups in the NFL...

he practiced at the start of training camp, so it's IR or nothing, he's not PUP-eligible

I'm not a big fan, but if he's healthy, being a game day inactive gives us a lot more than other backups, possible starters.

I think the Pats are holding out hope that Kaczur may contribute something this season. I believe the lack of quality depth on the o-line is the only thing keeping him around. He's a liability in pass protection so I'd prefer to not see him forced into a starting role. I'm hoping Dan Connolly can progress at LG.

Not knowing his actual injury or what type of surgery happened it is difficult to guess at much of anything, would prefer him as either a starter or a competent backup..

I've always liked Kaczur. He was just out'f'is depth as a starting Right Tackle.

"As a starting Right Tackle, he makes one HELL of a back up Guard!" Haw.

If Kaczur can come back early enough to take it all the way back through the gears, I'd love to have him at Left Guard, which would give us Connolly + Wendell as Interior Reserves, and perhaps Ojinnaka as an Exterior Reserve and LeVoir as a Swing Tackle, assuming my BOY, Maneri, joins Ohrenberger on the Practice Squad, with Bussey, perhaps, on IR?

Or if Connolly is rocking it at Left Guard, we could, perhaps, roll with Kaczur as our 2nd Exterior Reserve, if the other one ~ Ojinnaka ~ is, indeed, capable at Center.

My favorite scenario, of course, would be if Logan Mankins got back on his @#$%^&* medication, simmered down, and took back the spot that the Gods destined for'm.

That would ~ suddenly ~ restore us to commanding excellent Quality of Depth, with Kaczur, Connolly, Wendell, and either Ojinnaka or Levoir in Reserve.

Given what we've seen, does he take over at guard from Connolly when he's ready? I don't think so. Definitely a quality backup, though.

Better than average starter != serviceable player but nothing to write home about.

Guys like Kazcur aren't superstars, but they're still very valuable.

Indeed.

Championships are Won in The Trenches.

And anyone presuming that we're just going to roll for 26 weeks with our original Starting 8 TrenchMen ~ O Line + D Line ~ need to get get off the Crack.

Anything that can be done to develop and improve Depth of Talent in The Trenches is invariably worth considering.
