I'll start by saying that I usually detest these kinds of threads because they seem so prevalent on the board anytime someone gets released, but this is one time when I just couldn't help myself.

With the season-ending injury to Bodden and the fact that we will be forced to field such young corners, would the possible addition of a veteran like Vasher, someone who can still somewhat play the game, be something to look into? I'm sure the Patriots could get him on the cheap seeing as how his options would be take small money or sit at home all season. He had that one really amazing season with the Bears before fading into obscurity, which culminated in him getting cut by the Chargers. And though he's had some recent problems with missing games, he's still relatively young and still pretty athletic.

What do you think?

P.S. I know we have other needs, but the need at corner strikes me because we'll be facing some potentially really really good passing teams this season.

Nah, he probably falls in the Ty Law boat. I thought Vasher would be an okay pick since he's only 28.

Huh! I didn't know much about him, but everyone raves about his attitude as a team mate etc. What a dropoff. Is he just succumbing to injuries?

Something seems funny, but it certainly merits a look from what I read.

I dont think the depth is that bad off we could use a guy like bodden but vasher isnt that and I am not sure he is any better than whilhite or wheatley

no offense, but if everyone starts a new thread for a binky or a fantasy foolball wet dream, than the board will be just like jetsinsipid.com.....In other words "teenage heaven".

Better to keep bumping jmt57's excellent position threads.....don't ya think?

No. We have five young players that know the system better than Vasher. I think the Giants went to one of their Superbowls with two rookie CBs (not positive though it's close). I'd rather make a youth decision and live with the consequences.

You're right, something does seem funny. I don't know if it's just injuries playing a part or not. I remember watching him as a Bear, and the kid really seemed like he was the next best thing at CB. I admit that I haven't seen him much in recent years, but he's got decent height and I remember watching a very athletic guy back when he was making plays for the Bears.

I just thought it'd be worth a look.

Nope and really Dre Bly?! Hey guys what about Deltha O'Neal while were at it :D

He is a worse corner than Deltha O'Neal. Similar, but worse. No thanks.

Dre Bly would make Deltha O'Neal look like an all-world cornerback in this defense.

Best set of threads this board has seen.

I like the idea of bringing in a veteran to be the nickel CB, definitely not as one of the top two though. Wheatley is already banged up, and neither he nor Wilhite are too good to begin with. If one has to miss a game, we are down to Arrington as our dime back, who is a great STer but has never seen legitimate time as a DB here. Some veteran depth wouldn't hurt, as long as it's cheap and the guy knows he won't be one of the top 2.

I dont think at this stage of the oncoming season we need guys that are great in the clubhouse. We need them to be great on the field.

They say ignorance is bliss, but why not google his WIKI page so you have an idea what you're talking about?

He's only 28 and has been an all pro, has 19 interceptions, and has the all time Texas Longhorn interception record.

That's with two seasons of injuries in between.

If you're finding better guys in their prime age available for free then excuse me.

Just a guess, but two years of injury problems could have led to a lack of confidence. If he does have a good attitude, what's the harm in letting him play teams and slowly work his way in? That's assuming he doesn't have chronic injury damage of some sort.

Pretty good return here

Worth a look? why not?

I agree. That's the reason I started the thread. My whole notion here was that it's at least worth a look. I don't see the harm in that at this point. This team is being ravaged by injury on defense, which is the side of the ball where most of the questions were to begin with. It's scary.

I'd try to hire, Alex Gibb (OL coach Seattle). He was the guru of the "zone blocking". He helped Terrell Davis get the holes he needs to run...

Dante is really the problem.

Wide receivers today are taller, stronger, faster and smarter... and defensive backs, mainly the corners, need to be taller than in days past. The Super Bowl loss to the Giants occurred because of that height disadvantage, amongst a few other things...but during the Giants final drive, the lack of height of our corners definitely came into play on two critical plays.

You mean, like, Plaxico Burress?

The loss to the Giants, I have concluded, was the result of the football gods deciding that they weren't ready yet to pass the chalice once and for all to the Patriots, because that game would have ended all debate as to the greatest team of all time forever. We would have become completely insufferable and lost all of our non-Patriot friends. It was for our own good. Even if it felt so so bad.
