Are the Paytriots rebuilding?

Re: Are The Patriots rebuilding?

Are the Paytriots rebuilding?

It looks to me more like they are cleaning house, getting rid of the no upside players, special team players, and replacing them with younger high upside players, or clearing space to bring in some players they like from other teams.

Re: Are The Patriots rebuilding?

More like retooling. They still are good enough to compete for the division, but they are rebuilding the defense. I call rebuilding when you go to 4-6 wins to clean house. This team could still win 10-11 or possibly 12 games if everything goes right.

Re: Are The Patriots rebuilding?

Need to qualify.

2000 was a rebuild
2003 was a reload
2006 was a reheat
2009 was a reheat
2010-I'll say reload as I think 12-4, 11-5 is very attainable.

Re: Are The Patriots rebuilding?

This house ... is CLEAN.

Man, what a day. ANybody who's been given a chance and hasn't proven themselves enough... gone. Onto the new.

Re: Are The Patriots rebuilding?

I should have said...Are the Patriots rebuilding on defense? They can still win some game because the offense should score a lot of points.

What is that question based upon?
Burgess?
He was NEVER going to play in the base D. He was only playing there in the preseason for evaluation.
I dont think cutting a sub package pass rusher who struggled in the role last year is a sign of a rebuild. (I assume by rebuild you mean weaken the roster today to build for the future)

Re: Are The Patriots rebuilding?

They're cleaning out deadwood, that's for sure. No slight on any particular player, but if you ain't hungry, you ain't going to eat on this defense.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them claim some go getters on waivers.

Re: Are The Patriots rebuilding?

I think in today's NFL teams are constantly "building', so in that sense you are never truly RE-building. By definition most teams turn over 20% of their rosters EVERY year, so in essence you can say they are always rebuilding.

What we have seen in the last 2 seasons has been a larger than average turn over between the draft and FA. BUT again, bb is constantly building a roster....same goes for this year.

Re: Are The Patriots rebuilding?

Its a very young defense so of course the Patriots are rebuilding just about all areas of defense,How anyone can say they are not are in complete denial...This team was once known as one of the oldest defenses in the league, now its a reversal and its going to take a few years to get anywhere near an elite defense IF these youngsters can play at the pro game level, you can't lose 3-5 players of great importance in such a short time and just continue where you left off - it takes time and patience for fans who expect no changes year to year.

However on offense I think we have a good nucleus of veterans and youngsters all of whom have shown some good ability.

I think its safe to say we are all MUCH MUCH more comfortable with the offense than the defense this season.

Breer reports that 37 percent of current roster is 2009 or 2010 draft picks or undrafted free agents. Nearly unheard of youth.

The Pats have been re-building their defense for the last 3 years. It started with the drafting of Mayo. It continued in 2009 with the drafting of Butler, Chung, and Brace. And it's continued with the additions of McCourty, Cunningham, Spikes, and Deaderick.

If this is rebuilding the construction isn't going to well. This defense could be worse than 3 years ago.

I agree. I just wish that they had started rebuilding the D a little sooner. :p

You do realize they went undefeated in the regular season that year and missed winning the superbowl by a fluke catch? Do you really expect them to be that good every year?

I am willing to bet that this year turns out to be the best draft of the BB era.
