If that question was asked this morning, Sam Aiken, Eric Alexander, Pierre Woods, and Sergio Brown would have been (4) of the top answers.

Here's 4:

Arrington, Murrell, Slater, White

I completely missed that Slater made the team. Kind of surprised on that one. He'll mostly be used on special teams, but not as a return man anymore, with Tate probably taking over the kick return duties.

I was a little surprised slater made it, I thought he was a bubble guy and after missing the whole preseason I thought he would be gone.

Here are the special teams units (from Reiss) from the giants game (Arrington and Slater where not playing):

Punt Coverage
P Zoltan Mesko
LS Jake Ingram
S Pat Chung
RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis
S Sergio Brown (CUT)
S Ross Ventrone (CUT)
LB Marques Murrell
LB Gary Guyton
LB Eric Alexander (CUT)
LB Brandon Spikes

You could replace Brown & Ventrone with Arrington & Slater, replace Alexander & Woods with White/Fletcher/McKenzie/Ninkovich

Punt Return
RB Kevin Faulk/WR Brandon Tate (2 different returners)
CB Darius Butler
CB Devin McCourty
S Sergio Brown (CUT)
S Pat Chung

S James Sanders
LB Dane Fletcher
LB Tyrone McKenzie
LB Marques Murrell
WR Sam Aiken (CUT)

You could replace Brown & Aiken with Arrington/Slater/Page (not sure what he's like on special teams)

Kickoff Coverage
K Stephen Gostkowski
LB Brandon Spikes
S Brandon Meriweather
LB Tyrone McKenzie
RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis
LB Rob Ninkovich
S James Sanders
CB Devin McCourty
WR Sam Aiken (CUT)
S Sergio Brown (CUT)
LB Gary Guyton

You could replace Brown & Aiken with Arrington/Slater/Page (not sure what he's like on special teams)

Kick Return
WR Taylor Price
RB Thomas Clayton (CUT)
OL Dan Connolly
TE Rob Gronkowski
TE Alge Crumpler
LB Rob Ninkovich
LB Thomas Williams (CUT)
LB Eric Alexander (CUT)
S Sergio Brown (CUT)
LB Marques Murrell
WR Sam Aiken (CUT)

Replace Clayton with any returner
Replace Brown & Aiken with Arrington/Slater/Page
replace Alexander & Williams with White/Fletcher/McKenzie

So there are plenty of guy's who can play special teams.

Good list Patsfan1973.

Other options include Guyton and Ninkovich, they've spent a lot of time there previously. And even though they played little or no S/T this preseason, McKenzie, Mayo and Cunningham could see some time on S/T if needed later this season too, though I doubt that will happen.

Thanks.. I had actually forgotten Guyton, Ninkovich and Arrington from my list.. I've now updated it.

Have to say that I'm stunned with the Aiken cut and a surprised with the Woods cut. More so with these 2 guys than with Burgess or Lewis.

Anyway, I think Slater and Arrington are clearly the 2 ST aces and White is probably intended to be a third. The other 2 guys who are very good on ST are Chung and McCourty, but I'm kind of feeling like I'd rather not see these 2 guys on ST due to risk of injury and losing them from the D - especially McCourty.

There are plenty of guys to make plays..I totally agree there...WHO though will have Aiken's expertise of all the special teams?? I am talking about what Izzo did as well....one who can lead, has experience and will devote time to that???? That is what I see as missing now. It's great to have a lot of quick young players BUT??? Special teams needs as much vet leadership..at least from ONE.

Tracy White could be this guy.. He's got 6 years in the league doing primarily STs, though he was pressed into action as a Coverage LB last season for the Eagles..

That is possible..and I HOPE he sticks...Having looked at threads many want him cut and gone. IF he is the guy for that ST vet leadership, THAT would be a big plus.

I can just see O'Brien... "Very funny guys, I miss one meeting and you guys pull a prank... ha.ha.ha"
