On tonights Comcast Sportstonight, Steve DeOssie said that "Laurence Maroney is not a large part of the Patriots plans this year." Further, DeOssie said that Maroney is only on this team because of the ages of Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris.

Is DeOssie a coach on this Patriots team?

Here come the Maroney fan boys...

Interesting notion, given that statistical analysis is far more favorable to Maroney than the press/fan base, and that BB is a user of such analysis.

I am.

He's a 25 year old in a contract year. He knows he has one real chance to get paid. I don't expect him to be a pro bowler but I do expect to see the best Maroney we've seen so far.

What's so stupid about that? There's some truth to that. It's not like you can count on Taylor and Morris to last through the season.

Yes, that was DeOssie's point. He said that if Morris and F.Taylor were younger then Maroney doesn't make this team. What he meant was that due to the injury risk at their age, it is necessary to keep Maroney.

Not unless the Pats have something to say about that. You do know Maroney has to actually get some carries in order to do anything?

The only way Maroney returns is if nobody in the FA market wants him. If I was a RB, I'd never want to play for the Pats.

I fully expect him to get the carries. I'm fine with Maroney only getting 150 touches if he's making the most of them. Look no further than Kevin Faulk as an example.

I think he'll have a solid year.

I just didn't understand the point of another anti Maroney thread

Fred Taylor is a borderline hall of famer. Was anyone offering us Fred Taylor in his prime? If Corey Dillon found the fountain of youth and came back to the Patriots as the runner who ran for 278 yards, he'd be better than Maroney too.

If Elisha Cuthbert finally realized i was the only man who could make her happy and dropped over tonight, I'd have something better to do than post on this stupid thread.

etc. etc.

If Fred Taylor was younger, how many current NFL running backs would play?

Yeah cause then you would have to be a team player and that would suck right?

The Pats running game gets such a bad rep, but it consistently is ranked in the top half of the league year in, year out. It's just done with a commitee so there's no 1000 rushers. I would think it would be great to be a RB on a team that has such great passing game weapons that have to be respected by the defense which in turn opens up the ground game for you.

But then again, if you're a selfish RB in the Tomlinson mold, you wouldn't want to share carries without crying about it first.

Sounds like a typical homer response. Try putting yourself in the shoes of guys like Maroney, Taylor or Morris and know what it feels like when you fumble the ball once or not take it too the house on your first carry. The Pats put these guys on timeouts when this happens.

Sorry to break it too you, but it's rare to find players that are okay with sharing carries with 4 other backs.

You'll see when Maroney bolts next year (if anybody wants him).

I find Deossie hard to listen to with his stuttering and mumbling and he says scenario a lot. On his point he may be right but if Maroney has a good year, who cares.

There's not a RB on our roster that would be the "#1 guy" on any other team in the league.

If the Patriots had a #1 guy, I'm sure he'd get #1 guy carries.
