i guess it's expected that there will be a focus on the OL DE DT and WR as i think the middle is where we will be looking next draft... wr being the exception. With all the talk about pass rush i almost forgot about the situation across out OL with light neal and koppen ageing and mankins probably gone

Perhaps. Young kid, complicated offense, poise, play making, good decisions, mobile... As a sophomore he kept Cincy en route to the Orange Bowl while Pike was in sick call, the kid can ball.

Southern Mississippi @ South Carolina -- this was an ESPN late night rebroadcast so they skip ahead in the game in order to cram one hour of commercials into a two hour rebroadcast.

A NE scout was reported checking out Southern Miss., the most likely player is WR DeAndre Brown (Jr) 6‐6/239. There was a SBnation (Pats Pulpit blog site is part of that linked blog network) article noting how he basically wasn't to be seen in this game and crediting him with maturity issues. What little glimpses I got of him in the rebroadcast looked like your typical WR diva. His cousin, a 5‐11/176 rSo was seeing a lot more action then he was. Somebody to watch in case he gets his act straight and lives up to the reported talent which certainly seemed to be there. Other Southern Miss. players who might have drawn interest: DT John Henderson (Sr), DT Terrence Pope (rJr), DT Anthony Gray (Sr), QB Austin Davis (rJr), RB V.J. Floyd (Sr), and OC Cameron Zip -- Henderson is reported to be 301 and Pope 285, but it sure looked like those numbers should be switched, either way, Henderson and Pope run well for big men, they were all over the field in pursuit and dropped into coverage on zone blitzs, Pope in particular may be worth late round consideration, Henderson and Gray have UDFA potential. Austin Davis played with poise and is reportedly noted for good decision making, another UDFA prospect. Floyd has a little Kevin Faulk in him, a bit shifty, not a speedster, good hands (I saw a one-handed grab on an off-target ball with a bit of zip on it). He's probably not NFL caliber, but he played like the kind of kid you automatically want to root for, just doing his job and taking what was there to find. Zip looks like another Wendell, the kind of non-standard, scrappy, smart kids Dante has been collecting in late round/UDFA signings and grooming into workable reserves.

Don't forget RB. I'm thinking we might want to get a couple new models before parts start falling off the ones we have now.

Also, I think we might be looking for another safety with decent range and coverage skills or a relatively cheap CB who could be converted to safety.

Drake defensive end Dain Taylor, a preseason all-American, was visited by New England, Minnesota and Dallas scouts.

Taylor, who was all-Pioneer League as a junior, is a fifth-year senior who weighed 200 pounds when he arrived at Drake. Now, he has 250 pounds packed on his 6-foot-3 frame.

I think the reason a lot of scouts are flocking to Colorade is because 6'9" OT Nate Solder is there. I think he was first team OT last season in a conference that had two OT's taken early in the last draft.

I think New England went to Miss State to check out Powe the huge 340 pound NT.

We did the Georgia - UL Laf game this past weekend and unfortunately Green did not play, I don;t think. The University SID said something about a trip to Miami and so theyt were holding him out pending a rulign from the nebulous organization known as the NCAA.

I saw nothing in either team's starting line up that impressed me.

However in three or four years, the Georgia QB Murray could be the next Stafford. I was very impressed with him. If he learns to read defenses better and gets a few more MPH on the fastball, he could be special.

Quinton Coples, DE, 6-6/272 - Jr who may come out early.

He played tackle (primarily filling in for Austin) and end and was pretty much unblockable. Don't know how he will time for straight line speed and he never seemed to line up very wide, but he had plenty of quickness and functional strength. Seems to have the measurables and showed up with the bright lights on him in a tough situation. Definitely on my radar.

As an aside, that is a sick amount of talent on the Heels defense and a tragedy that they couldn't do their own homework and keep their party pictures off Facebook.
