But for vets that know the system, are in great shape, why bother? i'm sure BB has a million reasons.
I personally don't think they have much to gain playing against the opponents' bottom roster, so I am for them not playing as well. But there is something to be said for team cohesion that is beyond each individual's comfort in the system. For example, Brady playing with Tate may not help Brady but it might help Tate, and thus the team in the long run. .
Nice, so BB has at least once deemed it helpful to play his QB at least a little bit in the 4th game. We'll see if he feels like that again this year, he may only find it useful to play the young defense together.
There is absolutely no need for us to play Brady, Moss, and Welker. They are fine. The starting defense might be another story...
Well since single examples are enough proof for anything, then the Colts prove that you should never rest your guys if you want to win
Injuries suck, injuries happen, just accept it and hope for the best.
I don't want an injury to occur to the starting defense. But, outside of a couple of guys, they need work. I don't necessarily agree with playing the starters, but if it must be done then I hope it's the defense. There's no need to put the franchise quarterback out there and two of our top receivers out there as well in a needless preseason game.
I'd play them for a quarter, otherwise they won't have played in a game for 2 1/2 weeks when the season starts and we're going back to that stadium for Week 2 and it will do well for our passing game to have thrown the ball around some there. There is absolutely no need for us to play Brady, Moss, and Welker. I'm not a fan of resting players for too long. We might as well have not played them at all in preseason. It's just not worth the risk . . . look at Avery. Sh!t happens, that play could have just as easily happened in practice. I want a comfort level of game conditions Week 1 and especially in the new stadium Week 2.We'll have to agree to disagree. They'll get the chance to throw the ball around plenty in practice to get ready for the Bengals game. Brady should get plenty of work in during these practices and in the Bengals game to prepare for Jets.

That's not a very strong counterpoint. The first three preseason games are essential for playing all of your starters because of the new faces and gameplans which teams have to work with. The offense has gotten a few new wrinkles in it thanks to both of those aspects. The defense is seeing the same thing now that BB is in charge with Matt Patricia. Those gameplans have been installed and Brady has gotten to work with his new weapons. He looks great and looks to be in midseason form already. Welker is recovering from a SERIOUS injury and looks great as well. Moss is our best receiver and #1 weapon. I don't see any reason why the starting offense needs to be out there at all. The defense, on the other hand, looked pretty bad outside of a few guys the other night. If any unit MUST see starting time to work the kinks out, it's them.
It's as strong as you want it to be I guess. Players get better by playing. Welker has had maybe a quarter's worth of snaps all preseason. Maroney and Taylor have played little. Brady's on field relationship with Tate, Crumpler, Gronk, Hernandez and Price is in it's infancy. The chance of injury is there but it's small. That's not a very strong counterpoint. It's not black and white like that. The 4th preseason game is equally as meaningless as games 1, 2 and 3. Although I agree, I rather get other guys playing time.

Maybe they can offset that with a strong relationship in the showers?
