The Patriots need to cut down to 75 players by August 31. That means that it's going to happen before the next game. Given that, it's time to play junior GM.

So....... who's getting the axe this week, and why?

Maroney. Arugula.

Don't know they all sucked equally as bad, no one stuck out as sucking more than anyone else.

I think that these 5 cuts will have more to do with positions being overstocked than anything else.
The backups will play a lot next week, so we may keep guys (say a TE) that have zero chance of making the team so that we have a body to put on the field next week.

Probably at this point... I don't expect any surprise cuts.

Biggest 'surprise' cut might be Zac Robinson? I dunno. Nobody important's likely going just yet because that last game was just garbage.

My cuts are- Benjarvis Green ellis, no burst, no moves, not a great blocker, good kid seems to hold onto the ball securely has some talent as a receiver but unless there already moving Maroney I don't see the need or waste of space. I think he'd make the practice squad but I say eh who cares. we've seen him with the ones and he underwhelmed besides some goal line play made possible by giant holes our offensive line paved for him.

Wilhite, Wasn't physical isn't exceptionally fast or sudden, not smooth out of his backpedal, doesn't watch the ball constantly get's beat by teams 4th receivers.

Pierre Woods- Brings nothing to the linebacker rotation the experiment has to end great person great physical specimen looks like tarzan plays like jane syndrome. People have passed him on special teams in my opinion.

Sam Aiken- Least talented out of the receiving threats, great special teamer but he's getting up there and it be a shame to let a young player go then to keep on this career special teamer.

Zac Robinson- Inaccurate, lacks pocket instincts project at best destination practice squad.

Pretty good game

I don't know who gets cut this week, but one guy who really hurt his chances for the final 53 is Sergio Brown. I know a lot of people, including myself, thought he might be a dark horse to get on the 53 as a ST and backup safety. But he just doesn't seem to be that good on ST. He was poor on punt coverage yesterday and hadn't been good on kickoff coverage for the last 2 games.

2 other bubble guys who hurt their stock yesterday - Willhite still can't cover, and Wheatley keeps getting hurt.

As the guy at the bottom of the WR depth chart, Aiken played well last night. Was there for Brady.

Bill isn't going to cut anybody with a shot at the 53 like Aiken, Wilhite or bjge untill after the next cut. Injuries could happen between now and then. Future injuries aside, I do think the last 2 won't make the 53.

Well a few rookies will be going IR for sure ... toe injuries.

I think Zac Robinson will be one of these.

Cuts that wouldn't surprise me include: Thomas Clayton, Chris Taylor, Zac Robinson, Matthew Slater, Rob Myers, any one of the back-up offensive lineman, Damione Lewis, Dane Fletcher, Wilhite, and Ross Ventrone.

Since I can't really narrow it down that much, I'll just include that list. None of the above would shock me if they were cut.

I think you nailed all five.
Seriously?
You chose 4 guys who made the team last year and the only backup QB we have next week and not good enough for the top 75?

Belichick convinces Patten to come out of retirement then cuts him.

Thomas Clayton
Buddy Farnham
Eric Ghiaciuc
Josh Barrett
DeAngelo Willingham

I'm not saying these will be the five but the list will look a lot more like this than the household names being listed.

There are probably 5 guys on the roster who were already cut and brought back once.
Off the top of my head I can think of Farnham, Clayton and Ventrone, and there are probably others.

There is logic to what you say, but bear in mind that we are talking about who Belichick will cut, and he is definitely NOT a Mister Spock. Throw logic out the window when Belichick is involved in player movements.

Who the heck is this guy?

It is likely that none of the cuts from 80 to 75 will matter much in terms of the final roster. Some of the choices will involve when to put a player on IR. Others will allow a player to move to another team.

I'm not sure that Game 4 will matter much either, unless someone is injured. The key thing is to have enough scrubs to play lots of minutes in the last preseason game.

Zac ould be a shock. He should be the QB for the 2nd half on Thursday.

Belichick often makes these kind of cuts early to give the players more time to latch on with another team. I dont think that the cutting of those five is out of the question, but your point is well taken.
No he doesnt. But if you think so give me 5 or 6 examples of guys who were on the team one year and got cut at the cutdown to 75 the next year. If its often, 5 or 6 should be easy in 10 years, right?

Buddy Farnham
Chris Taylor
Thomas Clayton
Carson Butler
Ross Ventrone
