Ok,
I feel with the mocks I've joined I've either shot my load too early or left it too late to pick up talent.

anyone got any tips?

Much appreciated

One thing I always watch is the "workhorse RB's." There are only 14 teams in the league that have these workhorse running backs. These are the guys that carry the ball at least 50% of the time for their team, and don't share too much of the carries with other RB's.

Just my two cents worth.

I would rather spend too much then not spend enough. I see way too many people in mock drafts having money left over at the end. I saw one guy end up with $38 left over - that $38 could have been used to upgrade a mediocre RB to a stud earlier in the draft perhaps... but instead it just gets wasted. Spend your money! I can't stress that enough.

With that said - You don't want to spend half your money on Chris Johnson. It's good to go in with an idea of how you want to manage your money. In my league I have $200 to spend, and there are 15 roster spots (1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 WR/RB, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D/ST and 6 bench). I usually try to leave about 12-15 for my bench + kicker and defense. That leaves me $185 for the other 7 positions. So if I overspend a few dollars on a guy I really like I just know I might have to hold back a few dollars on another player.

Some people only save $1 for each bench position - but sometimes there is a big difference in a player you can get for $1 vs $2. It gives you leverage to snipe a few of those players that others may be trying to sneak onto their roster.

I also nominate players that I don't really want and let people throw their money at them.

Conversely, I rarely nominate players I do want. Depending on the size of your league you'd be surprised the talent that can sneak through to the end sometimes for a good value. Doesn't happen often, but if you remain patient you might be able to get a player you want for a good deal after everyone has spent their money.

I also pay attention to how fast someone bids on a player - if it seems like they can't wait to hit the bid button I know they highly covet that player and I push the bid up until they start slowing down. That one has bit me in the butt a few times, but I find it to be pretty useful in driving up prices.

I absolutely love the auction style draft. There is so much more going on that I don't know if I could ever go back to a traditional style. I hope some of those tips are helpful!

Don't mind me, I totally missed the auction draft part. I was thinking it was a regular style draft.

Definitely what goodwill said though...

Sorry to change the topic in this thread, but I don't have enough posts yet.

Does PatsFans.com do a pick-em league on Yahoo?

Thanks for all the adivce guys. Especially goodwill.

This is the roster I ended up with.
kinda gorged at WR, The early RB auctions were slaughter. I avoided them like the plague and think I did ok, even if I'm a lacking sparkle at RB.

QB Aaron Rodgers
WR Randy Moss
WR Reggie Wayne
WR Marques Colston
RB Ryan Grant
RB Arian Foster
TE Visanthe Shiancoe
BN Jonathan Stewart
BN Joe Flacco
BN Santonio Holmes
BN Mario Manningham
BN Thomas Jones
BN Marion Barber
K Robbie Gould
DEF Chicago

Looks like a pretty good team. How many teams in the league?

That's a pretty good draft, and like you mentioned you are strong at WR. If it were me I would be scanning the waivers for running backs pretty frequently. You want to be the guy that gets that RB that busts out.

I like the Visanthe Shiancoe pick up - in my opinion he is a really underrated TE that not many people target in auction drafts. Especially now that Favre is back.

I have stayed away from Aaron Rodgers so far in auction drafts just because I've been seeing him go for $40+ dollars (in a $200 pool). You can't deny that he will probably be the best fantasy quarterback this season though.

I don't know what Reggie Wayne went for in your draft - but I have been getting really good deals on him. I can't figure out why either - the dude is just consistent every year. I always look for him as my top WR if people are going crazy on WR like Miles Austin, Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson.

How many team owners are in your league? 10? 12? Just out of curiosity. Nice team, good luck this season!

Got rogers for 29 and Wayne for 21. only one I had to reach for was 41 for Grant. But like I said the silly money went on the RB's so made drafting At other positions easier. Shiancoe had 11 TD's last year. More of the same would be nice.
