BB is still the best coach in the league.
If you think otherwise pick a new team because the Patriots will be all his years from now. When the sad day comes and he steps down, I bet anything he'll stay as some kind of consultant to the the coach but still basically run everything just not publicly.

Too many times a coach, or a baseball manager, who has been successful waits too long to hang em up and then, when he does, he only has the bad taste for going out when the team was crashing I hope that is not Belichick's swan song.

I'd think you're freakin crazy ... except KC Joyner in his book "Blindsided" makes an interesting historical case that great coaches have a ten-year shelf life.

He adduces many examples in support. His hypothesis to explain the phenomenon is that very successful coaches come on the scene with a novel approach that sweeps the competition, but that eventually the league adjusts.

He further claims that coaches are unable to re-invent themselves, as their initial novel success is mostly from Darwinian selection of those new coaches with innate approaches that best succeed in the league environment they matriculate into.

An interesting hypothesis, and of course Belichick is finishing his 10th year with the Patriots...

What I love about BB is that he doesn't kiss mediot bum. I as a fan do not need him to be mediot friendly. There is no info I as a fan need to know day in and day out. We all know what we saw and we all know what we and BB thought of that lack of effort last night. I do not need to have my football team coached by a witty and charming media star. It's all about the football. Don't care about the pressers.....and never have.

The guy is a total ****, but he is our total ****. I would rather have him be good at coaching then good at press conferences.

If I may present a practical question...if not Belichick, then whom?

This is a young, you could almost say recently rebuilt, team. Why wouldn't coach see this young team through? IIRC, his contract runs through 2013. That sounds about right to me, give these kids 4 years to put it together and bring another championship home. If they can't after 4 more years, then bring in someone new.

Until then, C'mon, this is a top 10 all-time coach. Who else do you want?

In general, I'd agree with that. But there are always exceptions, and I think BB belongs in that category for several reasons:

1. He is willing to re-invent himself. In fact, he's made a career of it. He stresses situational football, and the game plans vary significantly depending on the opponent. He adapts every single week.

2. He is constantly learning. He isn't a stat freak, but he definitely reads some of the advanced football metrics out there. Is it reliable? We can debate. But he'll at least read it and analyze it. He was one of the first coaches to start routinely going for it on 4th and short.

3. He truly is humble. He's the best coach in the NFL, yet he visits college teams to see what's new. The offense changed to incorporate more spread tactics, probably from the Urban Meyer influence.

I could keep going on and on. The point is simply that BB is not a conventional coach. Maybe the 10-year thing is true. But I'm not betting on it.

And I loved the presser. Not the game or the defense. But BB's presser had to be one of the top highlights of the night (apart from GRONK).

I'm trying to figure out how you get any enjoyment at all from watching sports?

In terms of coaching, I want a good coach. I don't give a rip about how he is perceived in the media.

He, and the rest of the coaching staff, put alot of hard work into developing this team. When the team comes out and performs like that against a rookie QB (albeit the first pick in the draft), then he should be pissed.

I hope Bill stays for many many more years. He competes and wins SB with average talent. He gets the best out of his players.

Like another poster said, sure he may look like a **** on camera, but he is a football coach, not a media darling.

That aside the team looked like **** last night. Total ****, how could you not agree with him. Good plays were few and far between.

It will be interesting to see if the first stringers play much next game. I would leave them in for at least a quarter. They need the work....

I think Belichick and Brady retire the same year, whether that be 5, 6, 7 years down the road, whatever that might be.
