For the second time in three years, it looks like Ken Whisenhunt is giving up on Matt Leinart as a starting quarterback before the season even starts.

Whisenhunt announced that Derek Anderson will start Arizona's preseason game this week against the Bears. Matt Leinart will come off the bench late in the second quarter and play into the second half.

Matt Leinart benched for Saturday; could be done in Arizona | ProFootballTalk.com

Mike Lombardi has put forth the notion that Leinart could be on the outs:

Could the Cardinals actually release or deal (not sure he has any trade value) the man they have pegged to take over for Kurt Warner? Based on Leinart's play this preseason, the scenario could actually become reality...

...If Leinart is not the starter, what purpose does he serve in Arizona? Once the decision is reached that Leinart is not the guy, then the Cardinals must move him along -- essentially waiving the 2006 first-round pick.

Okay, I'll be the first to ask it...

...can he rush the passer?

Unknown but he does well with the ladies on softball teams and in hot tubs.

He was pretty bad on Monday. The kid they had in the 2nd 1/2 seemed like he had some talent.

Looks like Arizona are back to picking in the top 10 :D

I hear Mark Sanchez loves him.

Derek Anderson could be getting another starting gig, and throwing to Larry Fitzgerald & Co.. I'm sure this isn't keeping him up crying at night.

So what else is new? ;) Last year in preseason they told him he was welcome to compete... for the back-up job. And then after Monday's game, BSPN Radio was having a field day comparing his in-game interview with Vince Young's.

I have nothing against the guy personally; there's a ton of great college players who never make it in the NFL. It was kinda bush league, though, the way he looked so dejected when the Cardinals took him.

It's embarrasing this guy was ever allowed to start in front of Kurt Warner...

Trade him to the Chiefs as backup QB?

He has a horrid attitude, after watching his pre season week 2 game, he was blaming WRs for absolute horrid passes, and even during the sideline interview was blaming teammates...

I would have dropped him right then and there... he's not a leader, he's not a QB in the NFL.

Man, was the 2006 draft putrid. Funny how choosing Mario Williams #1 overall was lambasted at the time, but now looks like genius.

Maybe it might help if they ever allowed the guy to mature without instantly demoting him. It's clear nobody likes or wants him there in Arizona (which might explain the horrible attitude). He has yet to be allowed to grow into the role of starting quarterback and learn on the field with the starters. It's what on Sons of Sam Horn's board would be called SSS or Small Sample Size. Through a SSS, he hasn't done incredibly well but some quarterbacks need to get into a flow. Perhaps that's Leinart's problem.

Article right underneath it talks about how Cassel has learned to be more demonstrative this year and show his displeasure with people making mistakes in practice (something he should have already learned from sitting at the feet of the Master). I think alot of this is Leinart problem too. I watched him on the sidelines last week, and his aw shucks, and I'm not worried, it will come around attitude does not exactly inspire the troops.

Maybe Wisenhut is trying to light a fire under his arse?

Does lashing out at a receiver make him better?

Er, doesn't Tommy get in his receiver's face all the time if he feels they screwed up?

Arizona's gonna suck.

Man, who would have thought that of the USC QB crew that's in the NFL right now, Matt Cassel would be the best? Better than Leinart, and Sanchez, and debatably even Palmer...

[Match Game:] HOW PUTRID WAS IT? [/Match Game]

As I was informed from a Cowboys forum, check out the 2006 draft redo:

18 Dallas Cowboys
STEPHEN GOSTKOWSKI , K, Memphis
Original pick: Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State
After starting the year hitting just three of his first six field goals, Gostkowski has nailed 10 of his past 11 attempts, including efforts of 49 and 52 yards. If the Cowboys had him, Bill Parcells wouldn't have had to live through the failed Mike Vanderjagt experiment.

So we should just think of Gostkowski as our 1st-round pick and Maroney as the 4th rounder, then everybody would be happy?
