I saw the preseason games.....

I like what i have seen most of the time, but one thing that was there last reg season is still there, and its Brady missing open recievers deep (usually Moss)

either hell throw too far, or hell throw too short, but rarely right on target

usually the reciever cant catch up to the ball, or has to slow down for it and the defenders catch up

now that is what ive noticed watching parts of the first two preseason games...however

reading everything from camp, it seems brady has been spot on with everything, including the deep throws

so my question is this, is Brady still jittery? in practise he knows no one will hit him so hes fine, but in game action he is open to getting hit?, which screws up his throws???

Well, in the last game he was 10 for 12. Exactly what would it take for him to have done for you to say he wasn't jittery, 11 for 12 or 12 for 12?

That's pretty much your answer.

The last bomb he missed to Moss was around a 65 yard bomb- that's just about the upper end of his reach. You could see Moss slow up to try and catch it, but that allowed the double team to catch up with Moss and deny him the pass.

Plus there was pass interference on that play anyway.

I think Brady's worst throw was the one he threw behind Wes that cost 20+ yards of YAC.

The one he threw that Wes almost died on was accurate but not very nice.

Perhaps, he's refusing to throw accurate bombs, until Kraft gives him more money? :bricks:

seriously, he looks fine. Thats a hard throw to make.

They actually interviewed Wes after the game and asked him how he felt about his performance. Paraphrasing here, but he mentioned that he could have run the route better to create more separation from the DB and kind of implied that the throw was supposed to be where it was but because the route that he took wasn't as crisp as he wanted was what led to the throw being seemingly thrown behind him.

OK, hopefully those are all the answers that do not answer the question...

his general completion % is irrelavent, im only talking about long bombs

and i would like to have brady back 100% just as much as the next guy, but was wondering if anyone else had noticed the same thing i have

That Wes is a nice young man.

I'll pay closer attention to it tomorrow.

Do you know what the typical completion percentage is on long bombs? Its pretty low. Lets put it into perspective. Last year Brees was 9 of 25 throwing past 30 yards. Manning was 7 of 27. It isn't like he is expected to complete many of those so I wouldn't make too much out of it, yet.

Not to make excuses, but Brady's never been the best deep ball passer. Coming out of college, his arm strength was average, as was his accuracy on the deep throws. He's worked hard to improve (I remember him targeting it in several different off-seasons), and improved quite a bit, but I've never felt he's been great at it. Acquiring Moss certainly helped things out in 2007, perhaps to the point that we expect Tom to hit on every 65 yard bomb.

As for that throw to Moss, I didn't re-watch it several times or anything but it didn't seem rushed or jittery during the game like some of his throws last season. It just seemed like a missed opportunity from a QB in the second pre-season game of the year. He saw the right thing, the decision-making was sound, and the throw was just a bit off. It would have been nice to connect on that, but I wouldn't get too worried over it.

The rule of making long throw is that you rather under throw than over throw, because your WR can make adjustment to catch under thrown ball, or get a PI call. You can't get either with an over thrown ball. That pass to Moss could easily be caught if not for the early hit/bump on Moss; the PI should have been called.

Your basis of trashing brady is a slightly underthrown ball 65 yard down the field? Manning makes same throws to Wayne all the time. This is blown way over.

It is, but he didn't have a problem with it pre-injury. Underthrowing receivers on deep routes has become a nasty habit for Brady since coming back. That would have been a surefire TD had Brady just put a little more on it considering that Moss had absolutely burned the CB and safety. Hopefully it was just one bad throw on a deep route and it's gotten more crisp since 2009.

While we're on that pass--I guess I'm in the minority, but it looked to me like a play that developed a smidgen too slowly...thrown late, rather than short.

But overall, I'd say Brady has looked anything but jittery. He's staying in the pocket and planting solidly.

Do not see any issues with Brady at all.. he is playing as well as he ever has.

So far in preseason games, Brady is 15 for 20 in passing. That is a 75% completion percentage. Two of his incompletions in the first game were short passes (one to Crumpler and the other Faulk). One of his incompletions in the second game was a short pass to Welker. Yes in each game he has had one deep pass to Moss that was incomplete, but that is far from a trend especially in preseason. So out of his five incompletions, only two were deep passes. If I remember correctly, one of the deep passes Moss was blanketed by two defenders and Brady got it in the right area. I think you are making far too much of something that isn't there. Brady other than maybe one or two throws has been as sharp as he ever has been.

The one he threw that Wes almost died on was accurate but not very nice.

Wes later commented on that play and inferred that he ran the route wrong b/c, pre-snap, he thought he could take it to the house. He was probably right, but still, that explains the seeming misfire by Brady.

And on Brady's underthrow to Moss, I think that is called as pass interference in the regular season. Not that it justifies the underthrow. But if we are to take practice reports for what they are worth, it sounds like the Brady-Moss deep ball has been clicking all camp.

Besides 2007 (and he had his share of misses) since when is Tom Brady a great deep ball passer? I understand that his TD record would make one beleive so - but look film from 2001 to now. He's good at it. Not great at it. Moss may make him look great at it.

It's true.

On the flip side, it's about time for Moss to get back to high-pointing some of these. Obviously, last season he could hardly get his arm above his shoulders because of injury, so that's understandable. But if he highpointed a certain 3rd down pass with 20 seconds left in a certain Super Bowl 42, we'd probably have gone 19-0. Brady underthrew that 60 yard bomb by about 3 inches, which, when you think of the margin for error, is rather acceptable. It's up to Moss to prevent the CB from getting to it.

What's the point of being 6'4 if you're going to let it fall into your hands just above your waist? Larry Fitzgerald finds a way to catch both of the aforementioned underthrown balls. I say this as a huge Moss fan. And granted I'm not a future HOF receiver, so who am I to 2nd guess Moss' technique. But I do remember Belichick himself in the Path to Perfection show on NFLN telling Moss to go up and get the ball whenever he can (said it after Moss' first TD catch vs. Giants in week 17).

Well I have two opinions on this..

the first and most relevent is that I think Brady is playing great and with a chip on his shoulder! this team has a LOT of upside to it!!!

The 2nd is that maybe "YOU" and most of us, including myself at times, have come to expect "above and beyond" performances from Brady.

Since the massive turn over its only natural for us to focus more on Brady.. we no longer are waiting for Bruschi, Vrable, or Harrison to pull off a game winning play on defense..

Maybe 07 was the anomily and we will have to live with Brady just being "one" of the best QB's of all time as apposed to being god like. ;)

Either way I don't take a whole lot out of Preseason. Camp... yes Preaseason ...No..
