Wondering if we draw Jim Nantz and Phil Simms for game 1 against the Bengals? I looked at the schedule and don't remember any other compelling AFC game at noon (Central).

We almost certainly will draw them (again) for the week 2 showdown at the Jets.

I love it when these guys call our games. They elevate the moment that much more.

I hope so because I'm going to be out of town. I think the only real challenge to the Pats was Colts/Texans. I don't believe CBS has a 4pm game.

CBS has Indy at Houston as an early game. I'm pretty sure the Conference Champion and SB loser opening away at a Divisional rival will get Nantz and Simms.

Fine with me, BTW. I know I'm in a minority out here, but I prefer it when the Pats are flying as far under the national radar as possible.

Agree though that the Pats at Jets will be the featured late game the next week.

Yeah..... I gotta agree with you. I don't really mind who we get as an announcer crew, as I'm usually too caught up in watching the game to pay attention to what's being said. Sometimes certain folks do grate on my ears, but I'm not as picky as some folks, I suppose.

Heck, if I could figure out a way to get rid of that pesky 5-second radio delay, I'd turn off the sound on the TV and listen to G&G on WBLM.

CBS may want to play up the TO vs. Moss factor, and send Nantz/Simms to cover it.

I don't think the TO/MOSS thing drew many extra eyeballs last year.

I would definitely expect the Pats-Bengals to be the top game for CBS in Week One. It's a Fox doubleheader that day, CBS has no late game. Consider the games they have to offer:

  • Denver at Jacksonville
  • Miami at Buffalo
  • Indianapolis at Houston
  • Oakland at Tennessee
  • Cleveland at Tampa Bay
  • Cincinnati at New England

If it was a CBS doubleheader, the Pats-Bengals would surely be the premier late game. It's the only one with not only two teams that made the playoffs last year, but two teams that won their divisions. Moss vs TO makes it easy to promote. There's also the angle of two division winners that are looking to get off to a fast start after losing in the first round in last year's playoffs.

The only other possibility is the Colt vs Texans, hyping up the two high scoring, pass-heavy offenses, but Houston simply is not well enough known yet to be the marquee matchup - especially for the first game of the season.

We have 'em for week's 1 & 2.

As long as Todd Light and Randy Cross aren't playing ;)

Keep in mind if you are out of town in one of the ten markets for the five other CBS games, the Pats game will not be on TV in that area - you'll need to find a sports bar with the Sunday Ticket to see the game.

I live in Southern Ontario and got the time-shifting package, East-Coast which is centred around CBS Boston. Get EVERY Pats game from pre-season through to the SB ;)

I even get the Super-Irregular Patriots TV show. Just a head's up to anyone wishing they could get all the games, that may be an option on your satellite package.

I don't know, but I think TO is kind of yesterday's news.

Indy was in the SB. It's a divisional rivalry. People will be curious to see how the Colts start after the pick six. Bengals-Pats is about even in interest with TO and Ocho, but I think the edge goes to the Conference Champs. The Pats ended the year with a no show playoff game. We don't deserve to be a featured game straight out of the box.

Perhaps so, but regardless neither matchup is the featured game of the week. There's a Thursday night game, a Sunday night game, two games Monday night, plus the late game on FOX Sunday afternoon. I'm guessing the Pats vs Cincy would draw higher ratings elsewhere than the Colts vs the Texans would. Keep in mind the networks are more interested in ratings, not the 'best' game. You may be right, Manning and the Colts draw attention and is easily promoted. I just think the Pats - Bengals would more likely draw more viewers. The media and NFL fans certainly paid far more attention to the Pats' Brady than the Colts' Manning this off-season.

This is such a coincidence. I'm sitting here at 7:30 in the morning reading this thread and listening to NYC sports radio. Boomer Esiason is a host on weekday mornings (you see, we ARE New York, so we get the big names on radio). Anyway, Boomer just said Pats-Bengals is the CBS marquee game Sunday and Simms & Nance are going up there.

From my ears to your eyes. Man, that was strange.

btw, the word down here is that Revis is gonna be signed by the 3rd episode of Hard Knocks. Looks like they're close to a deal. On NYC sports radio, it's been Revis talk 24/7.

Great news, thanks.

I miss WFAN. Anyone know if there is a Droid app that allows me to listen to it?

Sure, man. It's easy. Just Google "wfan streaming" and follow the yellow brick road (err... umm... the easy directions).

WFAN is a CBS affiliate.
I love how we can listen to sports radio from all around the country now. I stream WEEI & The Sports Hub almost every day. I pick up The Fan on my regular radio here in Brooklyn and both Boston stations cued-up streaming on my Mac. That's fun. I can't wait 'till opening day.
I never miss a Patriots Monday or Patriots Friday on EEI and listen to In Progress & In The Huddle Tuesday through Thursday on The Patriots website, and The Patriots pre-game broadcasts on The Sports Hub.

Boy, how things have changed over the last decade or so. Whole lotta good media options to get our daily Patriots fix.

WFAN is the pinnacle of sports talk radio though. They started the whole genre and set the bar. And Mike & The Mad Dog's 19 year run was the stuff made of radio legend. Now Francesa is on solo every afternoon from 1:00-6:30.
Boomer Esiason is on Mon.-Fri. 6:00-10:00 a.m.

If I'm not mistaken, that option is available in Canada but not in the US. At one time you could do that in the states - essentially pick whatever 'local' market you received, regardless of where you lived - but the federal government (FCC) stepped in and put a stop to that about ten years ago if I recall correctly. I'm sure it was due to pressure from all the local stations and their advertisers; they want those commercials directed to people who might actually buy those products and services, and also did not want to miss anyone in their market who was watching.

So for those of us in the US but outside of New England, it's usually about nine or so Pats games on local television unless we have Sunday Ticket or a Slingbox setup.
