Who is trade bait on the 2010 Pats

The Pats just picked up a back-up offensive guard for a conditional low round draft pick. We are entering a period where good teams, at least, have more NFL competent players in camp than they have roster spots on the active squad or a clear path to the practice squad.

The Patriots have a history of making a couple of minor trades of veteran players for conditional draft picks. Last year, the Pats sent OG Hochstein out for a 7th rounder, DL Smith for a 5th, and took a flier on a TE from the Giants for a conditional 7th rounder. The Pats also sent TE Thomas to the Saints for what turned into a 2011 6th rounder.

Who are the players that are currently in the Patriots' camp that are on the bubble to make the Patriots' roster but are NFL competent players that other teams may believe fill a definite need and would prefer not to risk losing a waiver's claim?

James Sanders (Safety)
One of the five running backs who was on the Game 1 2009 roster
The 6th cornerback (Wheatley, Wilhite or Arrington?)

Anyone else you think other teams would be willing to risk a conditional 6th or 7th rounder instead of looking at the waiver wire with fingers crossed?

Sanders and McGowan look like prime targets for anyone struggling at Safety (and there are a few teams out there). I'd not mind - Sergio Brown looks a prospect.

I could see one out of Wilhite and Wheatley being dealt. We keep one and Arrington who has looked decent playing corner and great on ST in addition to the three untouchable CBs.

Arrington has looked good on ST. He has looked worse than terrible on regular Defense. He simply can't cover. Period.

He is therefore anxious to deliver the "Big Hit", from a running start. Ask yourself "How come he is ten yards away from the receiver, when he starts to get up speed for the big hit"? And he sometimes misses and delivers the hit to his own man who is not expecting it. He has clocked Chung, McGowan and Wheatly that I can recall.

VERY good point. It's taken a LONG time to forge the Depth of Talent we currently have at Safety, and I have absolutely NO interest in thinning it out, just to save a few bucks: One injury, and our current strength suddenly becomes a weakness.

Ditto at ILB, to those speculating about cutting McKenzie or moving Guyton: we have AWESOME Depth of Talent, there, after 5 HIDEOUS years of hard times. Why screw with a good thing??

Cap? What Cap?

I don't think Sanders gets traded. If a safety get traded I think McGowan might the one gone. He got benched for a reason last year.

Sanders isn't spectacular, he's just solid. McGowan may look flashy but I think his desire to get the big hit versus make his reads, be in position and make a tackle seem out of step with what BB wants in a player.

Eh. An attacking one gap 3-4 is my personal preference for a defense, personally. But I see where you're coming from. I've said time and time again that there's nothing wrong with a read and react 3-4 defense. It can be just as "attacking" as a one gap 3-4 when you have the horses to run it.

As for Sanders, can't imagine why we would let him go. He's a great back-up and is better than McGowan is.

Arrington was in zone coverage at LCB covering the wide receiver(I believe it was #80).When Arrington saw that it was a drag route to the underneath zone,he came off his man.....closed the 10 yd difference in a nanosecond and delivered a big stick.

Can't cover?.....It wasn't HIS MAN.....get it...not his man.IMO,Arrington has better closing speed than any other cb,including run DMC.

Look at the replay......see the wide receiver...then post.:bricks:

Wow. You couldn't be more off here. I subscribe to Patriots Football Weekly, who analyze to death every moment of every practice and preseason game and they keep raving about how fantastic his coverage skills are this year. As a matter of fact the question asked in PFW was "his coverage of receivers has been so tight, will he be able to get away with this in the regular season or will he be flagged for contact?"

I haven't seen enough to form my own opinion but I just thought I would pass this along.

Sorry, but you are wrong on this. You mentioned it previously, so I went back and watched the games. Arrington was not an issue in coverage. In fact, one of the times you claim that Arrington was at fault, it was actually McGowan..

I'll be honest. I don 't think you know who you are watching on the field because I made it a point to watch Arrington on every play he was out there and he never once hit his own guy.. McGowan did and it resulted in a TD.

I'm confused as to whom you're adressing in your post,off the grid,me or AZ.If it's moi.....I've only "gone off" twice in recent memory:
1.The post about Devin McCourty not being able to catch......I then dissected the play, somewhat calmly, explaining the angle run DMc took and the height of the throw.The posters' conclusion based on this one play was patently ridiculous.

2.The post on Kyle Arrington was based on visual evidence and my belief on this board that if you're going to make blanket statements about players,
you better study them and have specific evidence to back up your conclusions.

I admit my bullsh-t threat meter goes to redline sometimes,however,when I see a "Hey,look at me" post or thread,I do tend to go a little over the top.......But....hey,it's passion and I'm italian....so read it or not:verycool:
