Now Samuel is crying that Belichick never liked him and had it in for him:

Samuel didn't exactly barge onto the NFL scene, either. The Patriots plucked him in the fourth round of the 2003 draft, and although he became the first cornerback in NFL history to return at least one interception for a touchdown in each of his first six seasons, Samuel blamed Belichick for their tepid relationship.

He accused the Patriots' head coach of planning to bench him without cause for a Nov. 26, 2006, game against Chicago. Only after injuries threatened the secondary during the week, Samuel said, did Belichick decide to dress him.

Samuel picked off three passes against the Bears and finished that season with 10, including two in the postseason, both of which he returned for touchdowns.

"I ain't never said it, but Belichick, I just felt like he had a thing for me," Samuel said. "He had something against me. I have no idea why. He was going to start Troy Brown , a receiver, at nickel [corner] and I'm over here sitting healthy and he don't want to even play me."

Reached by The News Journal, the Patriots refuted the accuracy of Samuel's account. Citing the injury report from 2006, the team said Samuel missed a portion of practice twice during that week with a knee injury. Samuel had been inactive the week before against Green Bay, and also had missed portions of practices before that game.

Who?

He is the main reason the Giants scored late in Superbowl 42. His lazyness on giving up on the Tyree play is probably a reason why, if this is at all true, Belichick would want to bench him. I mean if he was lazy on the biggest drive of his career, how lazy was he in a November game?

yeah.... who is this Asante and why is he relevant to any Patriots discussions?

He obviously knows more than we do and we'd be ignorant to say that the "all-mighty BB" wouldn't do such a thing.

However, he f*cked up big time in the super bowl - dropping an easy pick to seal the game and then falling asleep on Tyree.

Devin McCourty says WASSUP!

Man, we dodged a bullet there. Groom a 4th rounder from Central Nowhere U to the point he gets a contract way higher than he deserves and he's still *****in at ya.

Too bad they couldn't have accelerated his fame curve to get a pick for him from some sucker.

By the way, I'm as Asante fan, he's very talented, but a big part of winning is your mental attitude and he's nuts.

Is anyone else surprised that the Patriots even bothered to refute him? Maybe they wanted to make him feel better, but I would have expected a quick "no comment".

He was unhappy with the way contract negotiations went, so it's not surprising that he's still harboring a bit of a grudge.

I am sure that if BB wasn't really a fan of him; he would have found a way to ship him out of NE!

Agree with the title. This is Asante's third year with another team.
Maybe time to move on?

Very true

Ofcourse, people knowing more than you and "you'd be ignorant to say" also apply to, well...every other subject.

You have some weird obsession with me don't you? In fact, I'd say a majority of your posts are reply's from something that I've said.

You obviously don't like what I have to say, so why don't you put yourself out of your misery and put me on ignore? Oh wait, you can't because you're obsessed with me.

The fact is, we were never in the locker room, so for anybody to sit here and say Samuel is "full of sh*t" is ignorant.

Why would he be unhappy? we agreed not to franchise him so he could get a ridiculous contract from a team who no longer really wants him. He should be ecstatic.

He's out there to get interceptions, period. No fame in playing team ball. Ain't going to get him in the Hall of Fame.

From the story:

Samuel engages the media, on average, once every two weeks. He refers to these short, hollow, bone throws to the media as "10 percent days" designed to get reporters off his back.

"The only thing I need you guys [the media] for is to help me get into the Hall of Fame," he said. "That's what they tell me."

Excellent strategy there, Asante.

My buddies and I refer to Asante as "Oops!"

I'm no psychologist but it's been my opinion that Oops! is even more haunted by that sequence of events than we are. He always came across to me like someone whose big ego was more than a little bruised by his draft position, slotting in the Pats secondary rotation, etc. That last drive was his chance to put the biggest exclamation point in history on his personal statement of "see how much you are going to miss me!" in his exit from the team, and he blew it. All the baloney Oops! keeps putting out there about Belichick is his way of salving that ego.

last i remember we won the SB with troy brown playing Corner so maybe he should just STFU. In my mind Troy can play any position he wants , he has deserved it :). BB even tried him at QB in one of the preseason games....

So what? That was a fluke. Besides, they haven't won super bowl since and they've had better secondaries.

so you are saying samuel is right ? Fluke or no fluke , troy held his own on the spot. Samuel should go to the STL game where he got injured and troy came in and played against the then mike martz leds rams.
In no way or form was troy hidden in the field.

Andy Reid doesn't like him either.
