OT: Manning already in playoff form

QB Controversy in Indy? Painter's stats were impressive

The Colts have a lot of injuries on the o-line, Dallas Clark is out. If those guys don't return before the start of the regular season, Manning might actually struggle. That team is mediocre if Manning isn't elite.

I've wasted too much time rooting against the Colts in the regular season. Personally, it's more fun watching them choke in the playoffs after being billed as the front-runners.

Let Colts fans talk smack all they want. Deep down they know what Manning is like when the lights are brightest.

I'm no Manning fan, but how you blame him when he threw the ball where only the receiver could get it and the receiver tipped it to the defender??

Blind Hatred my friend.

I have no hatred for Manning, it's just hilarious. And on the next series he almost threw another pick and went three and out.

I mean seriously, who doesn't like watching him throw a pick six?

At the risk of sounding like a Manning apologist, that pick wasn't his fault at all

That's just a risk I am not prepared to take.

The Ben Watson effect...

But the justification for all the MVPs is that Manning IS the team, so this shouldn't matter, right? I do agree that the pick wasn't really his fault, but his overall stat line wasn't all that great (8/15-91-1-1). Looks to me like Buffalo's 1s did a pretty good job against Indy's.

Now for the media tangent: It's striking how fawning Dukes and his gal pal are over Manning on that clip. "Oh, that wasn't his fault but watch these GREAT PLAYS by Manning hitting wide open receivers." Cut to Pats highlights, woman says good night for Brady (10 for 12) but Dukes gets all serious and says, "well, he missed on a bomb and he threw behind Welker on a completion." From what we know of Brady, yeah, he'll focus on those too and say he needs work. But I hardly think those two plays summed up his night.

Final tangent: Has any team had worse injury luck than Buffalo this decade?

OK, I have NFL Network on as background noise and it's cycling through Total Access again, so I get to see and hear the highlights once more. Here are the plays for which Dukes is heaping praise on Manning:
-- Completion to Addai. Except Manning underthrew an open Addai down the sidelines and the RB had to almost stop to make a nice catch.
-- Hits Gonzalez WIDE OPEN in the middle of the field (but that shows Manning's greatness)
-- Drops a TD pass "right in the bucket where only his man can get it", except his wide open receiver had to dive all out to make a nice catch. Pales in comparison to Hoyer-to-Gronkowski.
-- The INT was Manning's fault, even though Dukes puts it all on Gonzalez. "Peyton" led his WR too far and he had to lunge, which is why he couldn't control the ball and subsequently fell. Gonzalez's only mistake was trying too hard to catch a not very well-thrown ball.

I know. Let it go. But IIRC there was a recent thread on why some fans here "hate" Manning and this is a good example. (I don't hate him, just the fawning). Manning goes 8 for 15 and his wide open receivers have to make diving, scrambling catches and he had a great night. But Brady underthrows Welker ON A COMPLETION and misses on a low percentage bomb, and he has timing issues.

AND <close rant> some of these guys are SO focused on Brady's body language and comment on every non-gesture he makes, but PM gets a free ride for shaking his head and looking disgusted with his teammates after pretty much every play. </close rant>

OK, time for coffee. And The Discovery Channel maybe.

i don't think too many pats fans will hold that rant against you :D

Eh, I just thought it was hilarious really.. Not trying to spark any gigantic debates. And maybe it wasn't Manning's fault directly because the receiver tipped it. But it is a team sport, maybe Manning could have put a better touch on it? The thing looked like a rocket. Just the fact that Buffalo dropped 21 points in the first quarter mainly against Indianapolis starters gave me a chuckle. Trent Edwards threw a 70 yard bomb to Lee Evans. The funny thing is, stats wise, the best QBs in the AFCE? Brady > Edwards > Henne > Sanchez.
