Ninkovich was up. Way UP. very impressive.

Brace had one nice play, I thought, forced a fumble. That can't be bad.

I'm with you on Adalius, but Brace showed up, held point (mostly) and forced a fumble. Ninkovich had a sack. How are they on your "down" list?

I thought the 1st unit defense looked very good. We played very vanilla and gave up very little.
The secondary, all game, looked very good.
I thought the first unit OL looked good, the 2s and 3s not so much.
Damn Brady has a lot of weapons.
I watched Brace very closely, and he looked good to me. I actually thought the push he got on pass plays was better than his 2gap run D.
Derrick Burgess playing 34 OLB showed us why Derrick Burgess only plays nickel/dime DE.
McCourty is very impressive. I don't want to get carried away, but he reminds me of the best corner we have here in the BB era, in the way he seems to be able to do everything you could ask of a corner. I love seeing corners come up and pound guys catching 4 yard outs, and since 24 I havent seen that often. I remember when there was a debate on this board that the expectation of McCourty was that he migt be able to beat out Wlihite for nickel BY THE END OF THE YEAR. Didnt take long for that one to be wrong.
Chung has improved by leaps and bounds.
I am not impressed with short yardage run D yet, even though its only been a few reps. There are years when you just cant run for 3rd and 1 against us and others where we struggle a lot. So far, not looking great there.
Was surprised Murrell played with the 1s again and Ninko with the 2s. Thought they would flip that this week. Looks now like it means something.
Maroney and Taylor splitting 350-400 carries is going to be an effective running game. Having Morris to fill in if one goes down is a nice buffer.
We might finally be able to say that our punter can kick the ball farther than someone elses.

I thought McKenzie and Price looked good, and Gronk looked pretty bad. Neal and LeVoir were also no good, whereas McCourty was a definite plus. What's the deal with Butler, is he hurt?

Huh, Butler played plenty. he started and was back out there in the second half.

Devin McCourty...I don't want to jump the gun but he seems like a guy with a lot of potential. I really hope this kid can eventually become our best corner since Asante.

About Murrell, I don't know how big he is and don't have time to look, but he certainly looks to have the size that BB wants at that position. Ninkovich looks smaller.

Down: #64 LeVoir had a poor day. There were multiple runs for negative yards and it was always his guy that broke through.

Up: Chung led the team in tackles, again. The guy flies all over the field. I think he has a solid hold on that starting SS spot.

Ups:
McCourty - Looks like he is going to prove people wrong who thought the Pats blew a pick on him
Hernandez - Finally get to see what the hype is about
Connelly - People talk about how the Pats are down to their third option at LG, but I think Connelly if given a chance might have beaten a healthy Kazcur for the job. He is no Mankins, but so far Mankins really hasn't been missed.
Chung - The guy was all over the place. Really agressive. What we hoped for last year.
Fred Taylor - The local media had his career over before tonight's game, now is a strong contender to start.

I am not going to do downs just because I missed a lot of the second half and no one really stood out to me for being exceptionally bad. I want to focus on the positives especially since it was just a preseason game.

Up: McCourty. Last week with the special teams and this week with the coverage.
Spikes. Solid play.
Murrel. Solid play.

Down: Price. Has he caught a pass yet?
McGowan. Looks slow compared to chung and took a few bad angles.
Wright. They constantly ran wherever he was lined up.
Woods. Offers no pass rush.
Ninko. Couldnt hold the edge tonight.

I agree. They're both listed at 250lbs, but I think murrell looks closer to 265lbs. Some guys do bulk up after pre-draft measurements.

Some non-obvious ones...

Up
==
Ohrnberger - Got some snaps with the ones and fit right in
Tate - Just like last week, out in front blocking on big run plays
Mesko - 50 yd punt resulting in a fair catch. nice!

Down
====
Vollmer - Brady held on too long, but you just can't let Brady get hit that hard. Could have easily been a separated shoulder.
McGowan - Nice takedown on Wheatley on the only Atlanta TD
Mesko - 2 chances to pin Atlanta deep. Both inside the 20...but not by much. Little closer to the end zone please.

He did, and it's a little bit different when you have Hoyer and Robinson throwing to you. All three QBs barely combined for 200 yards.

I agree with this list.

I was happy when Taylor Price was drafted; but I was also happy when Hangin' Chad Jackson was drafted. I really hope that Price overcomes his Alligator Arms disease.

McGowan was absolutely awful tonight. When considering his 2nd-half performance last year (incl. his laugh-fest after the loss in Miami) and his performance tonight, I really hope that he doesn't make the team.

And to think that some people considered Mike Wright a legit backup NT; he can barely hold the fort as a DE.

Pierre Woods continues to do what he's been doing at OLB for the last 4 years: nothing.

Not only did Ninko not set the edge on a number of running plays to his side, but he also blew some assignments on passing plays, too. Very disappointing.

Don't get the knock on McKenzie defended 2 passes in the middle recovered a funble and in on every inside run to his side?
