Surprise move?? Try to call it...

Re: Surprise move?? Try to call it......

I think one of the second rd picks will go. For what position or who I don't know.

Can't see it. The 2009 picks have shown too much (and even Brace has enough upside to keep for at least one more season), and the 2010 picks are essentially untradable because of the rookie salary cap that is still in place.

Patriots trade Sanders for Willis MaGahee and cut Fred Taylor

Re: Surprise move?? Try to call it......

Before the injuries I might have believed the trades, but now there is room on the roster, so no deal.

Eventually Mankins, Jackson and McNeil will realize that they all have no alternative. Sayonara Mr. Holdout Baur, and welcome back, Logan...

Only one guy Sean Gilbert ever held out through a single year, never mind two. He never made the lost earnings up either.

I think these are odd scenarios as far as a hold out thru a full year would be concerned because generally if a player does that they dont accrue a season and are right back where they were but because these guys where hosed by he RFA going from 4 to 6 due to no CBA they could be set free if a CBA was agreed upon. Still highly unlikely they would sit a full season as they still would not gain the year of service toward benefits and they would be leaving money on the table that in theory they can never get back though the 3 mil or so is a small number to walk away from if you think you are looking at 30+mil.

Would you risk 30 mil over 3 mil now just because you might tick off some fans, look greedy, lose a year of your career, or any other side effect of holding out. Would you even do it for 15 mil vs 3 mil now (assumption being just because he signs a 30 mil contract doesnt mean he collects it all).

Re: Surprise move?? Try to call it......

I hate to copy answers, but I feel the same way:

1. Mankins is dealt;

2. Sanders is dealt. They want Brown on this team. and;

3. a veteran is traded for. An OLB/DE and/or an OL.

Bonus prediction: Morris is cut. The team wants to keep BJGE.

So you think the team is ready to rely on an unproven 2nd year SS, and keep as the only significant backup a guy who has already shown he cannot hold the position through an entire season.

Interesting thinking, I'll give you that much. I guess the only explanation for the sudden desire to jettison Sanders is that DWToys has signed up under multiple monikers on this site.

Sanders for a 4th would be a steal. I'd expect more like a 6th or 5th. Think about what they gave up for Hobbs.

The trade wasn't that bad. :D

Seriously, though, they got two fifths for Hobbs.

Mankins, signs to come back and play or get traded

other then that the only player the pats may sign will be some jag or a over the hill vet if they sign anyone at all

Re: Surprise move?? Try to call it......

Mankins will be dealt.

Brady will have a new contract.

....and I wish, I wish, I wish: Maroney gets cut, Magahee is a Pat for Wheatley and a 5th.

Throw in Wilhite and youve got a deal.

Re: Surprise move?? Try to call it......

When was the last time the Patriots traded a player for another player?

I think he was talking about trading a 2011 2nd for a player.

Re: Surprise move?? Try to call it......

Mankins and a late round pick traded to the Cowboys for Jason Hatcher, Victor Butler and Tashard Choice

1.) Yes, Gilbert did make up the lost earnings, at least in so much as you can "make up" for them. What's gone is gone, but the difference in what Gilbert got in his new contract more than covered the loss.

2.) Yes, Mankins, Jackson and McNeil do have an alternative. That's one of the reasons it was stupid of the Chargers and Patriots to lower the tenders. If you've already sacrificed millions, the amount left is not that big in comparison.

No Jack, Did you miss me?
There are more than a few people who see it for what it is. $3.2m is a lot for a back up SS with "fair" to middle talent.

When was the last time the Patriots traded a player for another player?

last one I remember was "Temple" Bethel Johnson for Johnathan Sullivan.

If that money were a consideration this season, you might have a point. Unfortunately, it isn't, so as usual, you don't.

Re: Surprise move?? Try to call it......

I liked the one about Schobel surprising everyone by ending his retirement early and signing with the Pats. Maybe he"ll tune in tonight on Fox and feel he has a legitimate shot at a ring with us.

Gary Guyton, peace

Re: Surprise move?? Try to call it......

Sign Adam Seward?

Re: Surprise move?? Try to call it......

Here is one that will get some of the draftniks heart beating faster.

Schoeble signs with Houston. Patriots trade a conditional draft pick for Conner Barwin.

The pick could be as low as a 3rd or as high as the Patriots 1st depending on performance and contract extension.
