Hi all,

I was just reflecting on the whole lack of leadership story that seemed to dominate the early offseason and Adalius came to mind. Is anyone surprised that he hasn't been signed to a roster yet? I would have thought that he'd be on somebody's team at this late juncture, but it just hasn't happened for him. Will he play this year? Have there been any reports of teams interested?

Not surprised at all. I think his actions last season almost guaranteed that people wouldn't want to touch him unless they really were in a bind. I could see the Jets still pick him up especially if Jason Taylor continues not to do much (Taylor didn't even record an assisted tackle on Monday night).

Guys like Thomas become almost untouchable when their skills erode and they are now labelled lockerroom cancers.

My thoughts exactly. The reason guys like TO, etc get so many chances is because they still have talents you can't really get anywhere else for that cheap. For what Adalius brought last year on the field (very little), even at short money you can probably find a younger player who can give you as much production, with higher potential down the road, and no locker room headaches.

Shawn Crable comes to mind...

I'm a little surprised that nobody has picked him up, even with the headaches and eroding skills. That being said, I'm glad he's still unclaimed this late in the preseason. Shame- it seemed like such a good move to sign him (at least to me) at the time. Time to move on.

He was awesome to me in 2007. He did everything BB asked him to do and he did it well. He played inside well, and he still performed when they eventually moved him back outside. I don't know why the next few seasons were so bad.

I think you guys are reading too much into it. If I had to bet, he didn't get the money he wanted. I'm sure teams tried to sign him to a short money deal, but it was AD who rejected the offers.

He very well might've priced himself out.

That being said, don't forget that Ty Law did the same exact thing.

I am with you on this a little....I am guessing there is more to the story than just 0 teams have intrest. But I think we would have heard some rumors if a team really made an offer. My guess would be either a) he set an asking price that has not solicited any offers and hasnt come down on price yet or b) he wanted to skip camp and will take whatever offer he might get in the next few weeks. Cetainly the possibility that he just stinks and is a malcontent and no one is interested is possible as most here would agree with that assesment but usually there is at least one out 32 (well 31 obviously not gonna be us).

I think they all watched the tape and combined with an unrealistic asking price and some attitude concerns that's been enough. To be remotely effective most teams want veteran FA in for at least camp so they can pick up the system. The other thing is for all the uncapped talk, few teams have appeared willing to squander any money this off season beyond a handful of the desperate, mismanaged teams where FO/HC jobs if not stadiums/venues are on the line...and AD doesn't have the Q rating factor most of them also require to open the purse strings. And the JETS would have some splainin' to do AGAIN in the locker room if they added him at more than Revis and Mangold and Harris are making. I think their hands are tied until they at least figure out what it's gonna cost to get Revis in.

C)his asking price was able to be met by teams and he was OK with going to camp and participating in 2 a days but there aren't any teams that need his services at this point and time.

I'd put money on him going to the UFL in the near future and signing after a few injuries.

After making $30 million dollars he's going to go to the UFL and play for peanuts? And risk his health?

I don't think he'll do that. Why would he? Love of the game?

BB made this guy rich and it was the most disastrous signing of his career. I think BB (I hope) has learned from this. Maybe that's one reason for the youth push as of late. Developing people is a lot cheaper and less risky than paying FAs millions and having them burn you.

As opposed to sitting on his butt hoping, waiting, praying that someone gets hurt so there might be a slim chance that a team is desperate enough to sign him to a quick deal?

Frankly how the hell is it any different than him going to training camp? Either way he has the same chance of getting hurt- at least in the UFL he can play and show teams that may need help later on in the year that he can still play

Why are you surprised that Jason Taylor hasn't done anything at age 37?

All you have to know about Taylor is that Sparano was sitting him down on third and long, Pass Rushing plays last season. He was not offered a contract to return...:(

I don't know if I am surprised. At this stage of the game, I think he might not be suited for the Jets defense where OLBs are asked to pin their ears back and just go crazy for the QB.

He might flourish in a role the Pats had for McGinest. McGinest didn't have great speed, but made up for it with disguising his rushes with a lot of delayed blitzes and misdirections. But then again, he didn't do similar things all that consistently with the Dolphins last year.

It's probably safe to say that if BB deems a defensive player worthy of cutting that most other coaches know that BB has an idea about what he is talking about. That's probably why Crable has not gotten picked up. Who wants a player that BB can't work into a defense? Mangini....maybe.

I though AT got a bit of bad rap here. He had a solid season in 2007, and was on his way to a great season in 2008 when he broke his arm. Last season was as bad as everyone has said, but I have to wonder where the disconnect occurred.

Was it something to do with the coaching, or did he just lose that mental edge. You know at that level, even when a talented player loses that "mental edge", he can quickly become quite ordinary.

Maybe that is what everyone sees when they watch tape of him from last year.

I'd put money on you losing that bet. No way AD is going to grovel for a job considering what he's banked. He's busy selling his marinades...he ain't coming back unless someone makes him a financial offer he can't refuse or someone begs him to come back and help them make a SB run...

Exactly. I don't think he wants to go to camp badly enough to play for a low rate deal. The richer he gets the more money it's going to take to get him on the field...which, since it coincides with his decline in ability means he won't play.

How many people worth 20-30 million dollars are going to play UFL, the travel, the practice, etc...for a couple hundred grand a year? Why bother?

My money's on four things: 1) he wants too much money and has been too proud to lower the asking price; 2) a couple of teams are interested, but not that interested; 3) in the next two weeks some team will suffer an injury ore realize they really stink at LB and will up the price, a little; and 4) AD will realize he's not going to do any better and take the offer, with as much positive spin as possible on how much he's getting paid to come in and save the day.

We screwed up, he's old and overrated.

He'll be eating cheez doodles and watching games on a big screen TV we paid for.
